Pretty sure it's a CMC (hibachi grill and all), but it looks decent. However, you should never be able to see the ground through the engine compartment. This one is missing the tins, etc. necessary to seal it off and keep the upper part of the engine cool. Not a show stopper by itself as you can add that fairly easily, but you have to ask about the possibility of previous engine overheating.
Lots of after market bling chrome in the engine area. This is usually not the greatest. Seats look comfy, but sort of out of place IMHO. The padded dash with tweeters on W and E sides hmmm... Nice steering wheel though. Needs the pin for the engine compartment (I am guessing the cable was not installed), needs the pin to hold the engine lid open. I agree with Lane. But looks OK. 10-12$K?

Just the info I need. His first shot is $15. It seems always to be a fine tune from $16 down to $12. It is a tough. I can do it with 914's pricing but not enough experience with these yet. More info just came in: the title is a 1957 volkswagen . vin #1307665 Does that nail the maker?
No the VIN doesn't give the maker away since usually the VIN is from the donor car and can either be found on the shifter coupler cover or engine on the alternator stand. The year it was plated as is obviously a reference to the year of the design of the car.

VW VINs back then were 9 or 10 digits (like 17 now). Both CMC (and FiberFab before CMC bought them in late '80's) had their own plates that were meant to be riveted to the vehicle but frequently the builder didn't bother (ha, like the engine heat shield which was actually fiberglass). It had a number that matched the Certificate of Origin - if I recall its like 5 digits. These plates were frequently applied where the original Porsche factory put their plates - open the drivers door and look at body panel where the hinges are with the door open. Those gauges also look like the optional ($325) "Vintage" gauges that often came with CMCs. Just for reference the kit (no chassis, wheels, trans, engine) was about $8k plus exobinate shipping ($1400) back in '89. Some colors like black were $300 more. Kit included lights (no holes cut), doors mounted but not hood or trunk lid. Bumber guards were extra too.
I thought the engine had an engine serial number not the VIN. Rare to still find the original engine block though! Is the VIN perhaps stamped in the transmission though too?

THANKS guys. I bought a more classic look one from Michigan. Shipping in progress. Some midwest RUST, but with parts available I should be able to bring it back to California standards.
