Well, I was gonna attach a pic of my car but I can't make heads or tails out of the instructions. Where is the "menu above" referenced below?:

"To add new files, click "Files" on the menu above and "add a file" to your folder."

Anyway, I was sent here by a Samba user. My custom, one-off car has a speedster windshield and it's too short for me. I'd like to add a windwing/visor/wind deflector. Can someone direct me to a vendor who makes/sells such things?

Thanks, Steve

Here's an additional post that only somewhat resembles the body shown on your jpeg. It's of a Porsche "farmed-out" design shop-built Beutler. (memory doesn't serve me if this falls under the "Gmund" era builds).
I have to add I'm am in NO way being contrary to your posted jpeg-just sharing some of the accumulated shi..., stuff that I have in my photo album.
(Also, for ID-ing old race cars try "TAM'S old race-car site"; just google it)

Stephen,
Bitchin' car!
I have a couple thoughts:
Can you lower your seat or drop the pan a bit?
You could try a roadster windshield in place of the speedster one. The overall height of a roadster windshield is the same but it stands higher in the corners. You could also try a cobra windshield. You could get the roadster windshield from intermeccanica. Check the makers tab.
The speedster windshield looks really good so I would try to lower the seat first.
What kind of seats do you have? Maybe a speedster seat would work?
Good luck and post more photos!
Terry, the car has vintage sport shells with minimal padding and these are bolted directly to the floor...no room to lower anything. I am also reluctant to change the windshield to a taller one for originality reasons.

For those interested, here are some highlights: '56 VW block with Denzel hop-up parts, 741 transmission, 356b drums all around, '56 ghia pan. The car was built in the early 60s. Here's a better shot:

Very nice!
It looks like a Spyder/Cobra mix. Color scheme is great.
I agree on the windshield. If anything, it should be lower.
You're either a tall guy or have a long torso.
Other than clipping on some visors or wearing goggles it seems your only other option would be to cut the floor pan and lower it.
There's been a few guys who have done that here.
Where are you located? I'd love to see that car personally.
Cut the floorpan and lower it...that's a great idea. I'd be a little worried about having my behind that low to the ground though. This car is really low to begin with but I'm gonna take some measurements tonight anyway.

Are there any threads where this lowering procedure is documented?

thanks
Stephen, really nice looking car. The front reminds me of a 550/RS60 hybrid. What does it weigh? Full or shortened pan? Looks like it could fly!
Sure would be nice to meet you and your car at Carlisle Import/Kitcar Show May 2010.

Its a shortened pan, weighs about 1200lbs. And Carlisle is in my plans as soon as she's running again. i am going through an extensive refresh right now...new brakes and lines, new wiring, added a fuse panel that it never had, all new switch gear, tires, carpets, carbs rebuilt, new fuel pump, etc, etc. Its close though, almost ready to put gas in it!

Steve
I found the car in CA about 10 years ago. It was running when I bought it and shipped it to the east. It sat for a few years in my garage while I was doing other things (raising kids etc) and then last winter it became a project. Now its almost done.

Everyone thinks its a Devin, and it is very similar, but I am now convinced its a one-off. If you look at the roll bar for example, the only way that could have been created is by building the body around it. To remove the body from the pan, I would have to either cut away the body around the roll hoop, or hack the roll hoop up. The roll hoop has no seams, so I know it went on the car first, and then the body.

Apparently, there were a lot of small, homegrown "glass" fabricators during this era in CA so it may have been something the builder bought from a "nobody" shop.

Who knows really. I've looked at the Kellisons, Devins etc and have not been able to match the car to any of the more well-known bodies available back then.

EDIT: I'll add some pics tonight to show you what I mean. Steve
Dale, Alan and I looked at a Devin on a trailer for sale at the Sep Manassas BugOut. No price on it just a phone number - by time we kicked idea of a vintage racer around it was sold. Body was rough in that you could see all the fiberglass strands - gel coat was gone. My thought was paint it flat black and call it the "Black Bird" (any U2 spy pilots out there). No engine but you could clearly see the huge 356 finned brake drums.

Like you said there must have been a gazillion folks pumping out resin cars back then. There's a Ferrari looking one (Fierro) currently on local CL that's tempting if I could hide another from the wife! Man, I need to retire again so I have time to play with my toys! (Or at least get one running!)
