At last year's Carlisle I was having a beer with Kevin and Carey Hines, and (I think) Henry Reisner and the subject came up. Apparently Kevin and his Brazilian partner bought an existing building in Brazil that had the sign on the side. They like how it sounded, so they kept it. Viola! A company is named. I think Chamonix is a town in France known for skiing.
The Beck obviously comes from Chuck Beck, their friend and designer of the Spyder replicas as well as their version of the Speedster replica.
Carey - Please chime in if I got the story wrong. There was beer involved, you know.

That is true... Chamonix was a kitchen cabinet factory. In Brazil, with all the red tape, it was 100x easier to keep the name Chamonix than to start over. At the time there was no internet, not much in international sales, and it didn't matter what the factory was called...
