I brought the car to work four days ago, and it wound up staying here until yesterday afternoon due to overtime and the weather. I intentionally took a couple photos of the car for posterity, some of the fellas shot some video of the parking lot burnout and the opening and closing business, and then ...
I work with some funny guys. I left the helmet and goggles on the back of the driver's seat, and this guy must have thought it was an open invite for him to get in and clown around.
I guess I must have left the camera sitting on top of the air cascade or something. Funny photo, anyway.

Isn't it funny how we SOC junkies just CAN'T stop looking at our cars?! Cool pics of a one-of-a-kind ride, and nice shot of 'Speed Racer'!

On another note, would you consider putting some kind of screen mesh (stainless, chrome, or whatever) flushed with the driving light openings? It would function as a rock protector as well as maintain contiguity of the lines of the front of the car.

Be safe, my brutha!

Peace - Out!
Jim, I'm an addict. The first step is ...

Bruce, his last name is Angerett. He says it's an Ellis Island thing and that it used to be Angeretti. His family is from Sicily.

As for the screens, I have some from a metro transit bus exhaust that are made of stainless steel, but I can't figure out how to put them into the curves on the front of the car. The nose has those funky curves in it, from the inside out and from the top to the bottom; there are two curves there to contend with.
The holes are about four inches across, and the screens are just over three and a half inches wide. I'd need some kind of glass work, or I'd have to manufacture some bigger screens I could flex-form to the right shape. It's on the radar, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Any leads would be appreciated.
Cory;
First let me say I love all the photos and stories of the build-up of the car. Every time you posted a new photo or uprade I was just amazed.
You've got to do another one, just so we can follow the build up again.

Where did you get the helmet and goggles?

I have a custom 55 ford pick-up painted Viper red. A friend of mine did a photo shoot of me in it with a leather bomber helmet, goggles and yellow scarf with a sky blue back ground for a magazine article. I looked like the Red Baron.

Ever since then I've looked for a leather bomber helmet and goggles.

I would love to cruise in the speedster with the top down and a leather bomber helmet and goggles.

Hey Cory -

Just to start 'brain-storming' (or in my case, brain-drizzle) on those screens, maybe some type of weatherseal (rubber or what?) that you could wrap around the screen's diameter and then push into the existing holes (kinda like a giant rubber grommet). That should be snug enough to secure the screen.

With the difference in appearance (screen is stainless v. black rubber weather-strip) maybe paint the screen a flat black to match the weather strip so the overall look is like an intake vent.

The difference in diameters (3.5" screen to 4" opening) and body curvature would be taken up by the rubber seal. Just a thought. Hope this makes some kind of sense!
Eddie, here's the one I almost bought:

All I did was search for flying helmets. A whole bunch came up.

Jim, I have some high-temp rubber seals from a trucker supply joint, but they're almost an inch across at the edges. They look horrible.
If I could find some aluminum trim, I think I'd be a lot better off.
Paul -- Good call on Garcia Aviation. I just ordered some motorcycle gloves and a repro Zippo from them. Thanks for the tip! Any idea where I can get some kill stickers like the American Pacific aces would have used? I'm constantly being hassled by Mitsubishis these days -- might have to shoot some of them down!
Assuming you meant in reference to the motorcycle gloves and not the fantastic hottie on the bike above ... I got rid of my chopper before I went to the desert last year. I'll see what I can find for a photo and maybe I'll stick it up in the past rides thread.
The engine was a '65 Bonneville 650 Twin P.O.S. -- on account of the Lucas carbs and electrics Triumph was using at the time. It was hung in a '55 Harley hardtail frame with a 30-degree rake, a Springer front end and true-spoke wheels. That was a rat bike to beat all rat bikes; that's why I liked it.
I bought the gloves (Garcia post) for driving the Sloppy Jalopy this winter. I sold all my bike stuff with the bike.

Damn. Now I gotta go look for old photos. :
