Euro-sign and the TV dudes are indeed the same.
A quick follow-up, when you ask the out-of-state friend or relative for some assistance...Don't offer up your own credit card number to do the deal. The billing and shipping address question will trip you up. I ordered while visiting in Texas and got the big negatory on the first go-round.
Vince,
Here's what I did. I ordered the CA Environmental Plate "SPDST." I then had my friend in Atlanta order a 1962 CA Yellow-on-Black plate with "SPDST" on it from the EuroSign.com folks. When he got it, he sent it to me.
When I got my white CA "SPDST" plate from the DMV, I put the stickers (Month & Registration) on the black plate and put the black plate on the back of the Speedster. I'm carrying the "legal" white plates in the trunk.
I'm not running with a front plate. Two years on the road - no problems (so far).
As far as I know, these reproduction license plates are not really what the State of California wants on cars registered in
California, good for you if you can get them registered to your car. I have what Calif. calls YOM(year of manufacture) plates on three of my cars. All use the yellow with black lettered plates, issued between 1956 and 1962. Plates issued after that, such as black with yellow letters are still valid as an original issue plate by the State of Calif., and are not legal for YOM use. Confused yet? To legally use YOM plates on a 57 or 58 speedster, the car must be registered as a 1956 to 1962 car(pan) sorry IM guys. And the sticker on the license plate must match the cars registered year(at least when you show them to the State for registration), that is 1960 pan, 1960 registration tag. I get my ORIGINAL, not repainted or otherwise altered plates and registration tags from a great source in Vacaville, Ca. Dave Hindman, phone 707-448-8942, website members.aol.com/davesclp/ca/plates.htm, e-mail Davesclp@aol.com Dave even got a YOM license plate for a pal of mine for his 1946 Indian Chief motorcycle! I'm sure Dave knows more on this subject than I, so give him a try. Joel
I got a matching set of 1956 series plates and after getting them approved by DMV sent them off to the Old License Plate Farm (Oregon and on web), where they did a spectacular job of refurbishing them. They also painted the DMV tag metal to hold the year and month stickers. the worse of this is the wait, although you could do it one plate at a time. Mine aren't specialized tho', e.g. no "spstr" but they are genuine 56 plates with a 1961 sticker that matches the registration. Keeping the front one in the trunk w/o incident so far. My main reason for that is that a pair is pretty valuable ($150 plus cost of restoration), and two have the tendency to be lifted, when one is less likely to be a victim. Decent reasoning if you get stopped, esp. in the LA area.

All this stuff can match and meet what DMV wants if the identification plate matches. NOTE: the id plate and the old license plates still doesn't change fiberglass to metal. Keep it in mind when getting insurance.
