The prescription my doc gave me for my back stiffness has made me very drowsy and heightened my interest in offering up my Speedster for sale. It's a wonderful car, running great, but I'm sorry to admit that just maybe I have "matured" beyond future ownership. Anyone not familiar with it: there's a 2666cc, Porsche-fan-shrouded, twin-plugged, direct ignitioned, Type 4 engine (oh, ya, originally built by Raby) propelling it with a new custom geared, Rancho heavy duty case transmitting the power. This power iteration is the second engine, replacing my first, much milder Type 4. All mechanical work was completed by my local Porsche go-to-guy here in the SE part of Wisconsin. Recent additions this past winter included some auxiliary gauges, a breather box system, Xenon headlights, door sound deadened, better interior door handles and a 3rd brake light. Any interest? I'd be happy to discuss further details beyond its custom, aluminum engine bay and aluminum cast, hand-crafted bumpers, Nardi Anni steering wheel, new Bilsteins, new 185 tires, 4 wheel discs, leather-strapped hood, etc. I have way more into it than I will ever get out of it, but fair offers would be considered so this old geezer could move onto something more soothing along the lines of a nice, 993 Cabriolet. Plenty of pix to share and some of this Midwest crowd have either seen it in action or actually driven it. Carey Hines, of course, is very familiar with it as well. By selling it, who knows? Maybe it will finally show up at Carlisle or SLO for you guys after all. The car has appx. 9,000 miles in three seasons, 5,000 or so on current power train. Humor me.

Rich, as you know 993 prices are on rise that soon will be compared to the 356 explosion.  For what ever it is worth, I read a recent interview with Magnus Walker. And for a guy that has owned 40+ 911's, he said the best used Porsche in today's market is a Boxster. The best handling hands down.

Good luck with your sale.

Rich,  if I was in the position to buy a 911, that would be the baby!  We are on the same track.  My cash position is just not supportive.  993's in my mind are the sharpest looking 911.... EVER!

Rich,

993 is a good choice. Super cars to drive and very modern looking. 95 to 97 so it limits your choices. Personally if I were to buy a "modern" Porsche I would buy one. That said the 87 to 89 3.2L G-50 cars give me a woody. Arguably the BEST car Porsche ever produced. Slightly less expensive than the 993 but if you love driving your 86 it would be like an old friend.

Good luck with your search and sale.

Tangerine Racing headers are all that and a bag of chips.

Not only are they stainless and beautiful-- they are a true, equal-length tri-Y, which is quite nearly impossible to do correctly on a flat 4 with our firing order.

Chis Foley is a genius.

X2. The running gear is easily worth $25k as it sits, and would cost twice that to replicate. I'm not kidding-- big Raby Type 4s are north of 20 large now, and the header/exhaust is $2500-ish (with all the accouterments).

I've driven this car. I have a 200 hp Type 1, and this thing made me mumble under my breath when I got back to the garage. There is no replacement for displacement, and a 2.6-ish L flat 4 is a lot of displacement.

Frankly, Rich is nuts for selling it.

Just stating the obvious.

Keep it, buy some comfier seats, and get to know a chiropractor

... or better yet, buy one of the two roadsters on the "Nice Canadian IM for sale" thread, and drop your running gear into it. Swap the lesser hardware into 'ol red, and sell it to somebody looking for something a little more sedate.

Everybody wins. Except the chiropractor.
