Patrick -

FWIW - I have a 1995 VS that is our daily cruiser. We have logged more than 100,000km (65,000mi) relatively trouble free. We've driven it through the Rockies (9,500+ ft), through the desert of Moab, UT, as well as my daily drive along Pacific Coast Highway, SoCal. No problem!!

Arguably, Its not so much which car you get, but about budget and caveat emptor! They ALL have teething pains, so buy what you like, and as much as you can afford.

Let the flames...err, I mean games begin...

Peace - Out!

Patrick,
Jim's right....it depends on what your needs are and how much $$ you're willing to spend...do you like working on the car or do you just want to get in it and drive?

i have and old '78 IM...it's 31 years old and in some respects, it looks it...but, mechanically it's brand new as there is not one moving part that i haven't replaced/upgraded...new motor, carbs, trans, new disc brakes at all 4 wheels, new adjustable front beam, new shocks, new steering box, new H4 headlighs, remote oil cooler, sump, full flow oil filter, lowered all the way around, and the list goes on and on...a lot of time, effort and $$ went into this....paint and a new top are next on the list but not a real priority at the moment as i'm having too much fun just driving the car...

i keep saying that with the amount of $$ i've got into this car, i could have gotten a low mileage VS but i would have missed the fun and satisfaction of 'building' the car the way i want it...

i guess what i'm trying to say that if you like working on cars and want a 'project' get an old IM...if you just want to climb into the car with a minimum of work and hassle, get used, low mileage VS...
good luck,
Frank

Thanks fellas,

These are the types of replies I'm looking for. I'd like a close to turn key car that IF I need to tweak, customize , adjust on a minor level .. then I'd love to take a stab at it ... not so much wrenching internals etc.

A used VS is what I was sorta aiming towards , seeing that VS is near me. I hope to find one that fits the bill.

Is tuning carbs an impossible feat for a speedster novice? Depending on my skills and patience I assume..or getting that alignment correct?

Im worrying about things that haven't even presented themselves

Im still waiting to meet up with socal speedsters sometime to check one out upclose
