My SHPEEDY (CA license plate) has been in its own "COVID Lockdown" for the past 4 months, so both of us were happy to get back on the backroads today in Pope Valley, CA (east of Calistoga and west of Lake Berryessa).Three things really made the day: The weather @ 74* F, the scenery (see below), and several wineries kicking off the holiday weekend with library releases of some old Petite Sirah. The roads themselves, however, were no fun at all. I barely managed to avoid a few nasty potholes and one better described as a "fishin'" hole. Hitting that one would have eaten up my Vred's like a hungry junk-yard dog.

Only 105 days to the 2022 West Coast Cruise!

Hey Paul, great to see you out hitting the road again. I spent the day changing oil and filters and will be out in the morning with the black car. My speedster is still in the building phase. Greg should have it ready when I get back from Maui in mid May. Looks like I will still be in Maui when the Knuckleheads meet in SLO. Sorry I will miss all the guys and the fun. Be safe going down the coast as always.......

Dave

Most guys have to do 2 or 3 cars to get to the level you did right out of the chute, @Butcher Boy.

Well done.

You've got it right, in the replica speedster world. Dave has been doing hot rods and other extreme mobile units for decades. He has just now deigned to join our simple little hobby! I don't think he does much by accident.

Thanks Stan, I've been around cars and motorcycles for 57 of my 72 years. I love them all ! I have also been lurking here for years and enjoy learning about the clown car caravan and all its mishaps. So, I figured out awhile back what I wanted. I have had many VW's, off the road cars, dune buggies. My first was an Empi sportster back in the mid 60's. I ventured into the whole Van thing and ended up into Hot Rodding deep where I am now. As far as a plastic Porsche, I have always loved the style of the speedster. I've wanted one even back in High School. Now I'm getting older and my days rolling around under a car are not as enjoyable as it use to be. The idea of a turn key, Subaru powered speedster was just the distraction I was looking for. I don't have the time or funds to skip along trying to get the speedster I ultimately wanted. So, Cry Once !!! as they say ..... I'm really looking forward to turning the key on my new build. I will be driving the wheels off of it till they pry the wheel from my hands while trying to take my license away, when that day arrives. I hope I'm out of gas by then ......! See ya on the road.

Aloha Mike, You're right ! this is a planned adventure into the world of Clown Cars. I have been dreaming of the day I take that first drive in my Speedster. I have been called crazy, but I'm ok with it. The chance to meet some great people, see some beautiful places and talk a common language of cars is the best part of the adventure. The drive will be the icing on the cake. Seems to me I owe you a beer too! I will be there the end of March. Would love to toast to Clown Cars again.
