......I'm back with actual technical questions. OK, here's the deal; I had to have some work done on my other car so I got the speedy out of 'hibernation' at my buddies garage. It was running a little rough so he dialed the carbs for me and it seems OK, but it's been a while so I'll reserve judgement until I actually get a little more seat time.
Anyway, ever since I stripped all the trim for paint the wiring has been F'd. Everything worked perfectly beforehand and now that it's all hooked back up I don't have a reverse light, the hi beams don't work and now the fuel level needle is all over. I don't mean it "floats", it goes from full to empty (on a full tank) and usually comes to rest on Empty. Is that the sender? I just put one in about two years ago. I also put a new gas cap gasket in this spring and the gas cap is leaking (typical). Can a gasket wear out that quickly? The car has essentially been sitting outside all summer (away in the garage at night) and hasn't been driven much at all. I'd like to tidy up this stuff now before I put it away for the winter so when April rolls around I won't have issues with inspection (hi beams, reverse light).
Ideas? Thoughts?
It's fun to be at it again.

Reverse light:
Wire comes off the hot side of the coil, through a inline fuse (check it) to the reverse light switch on the trans and then to the reverse light itself which, also needs to have a good ground.

High beam:
Need to know if it's a mechanical low high switch on the floor of column switch and relay?

Fuel gauge:
If pinned on full, you have a ground off at the sender or gauge.

Cap:
Yes can be a dried out gasket. ~Alan
