what do you think this setup would be producing (horsepower wise)

Complete tunkey 1600 Dual Port Engine. Professionally built by Steve's Buggies in San Diego. Originally built as stock and smogable, less than 300 miles on it Progressive Weber 2bbl, Bosch .009 distributor, breakerless ignition and 1.4:1 ratio rocker arms/push rods. and a Capacitive Discharge Ignition system. This provides much better spark and allows for a larger plug gap. It was purchased from John at aircooled.net.

That sounds like a nice motor. However... there is no substitute for cubic inches. If your Speedster has a VW tranny with the tall gear option, you'll be wishing for more HP and torque.
Around town mostly, you'll notice that you're always back shifting, or wishing for a better selection of gears.
Mine came with a 1600 stocker, which stayed in the car for about a month. It now has a 2110.

my 2 cents,

Greg B
I have to agree with Greg. I've been shopping cars recently, and have driven both a 1600 c.c. and a 2110 c.c., and there is no comparison. The 1600 c.c. was just like driving my old Karmann Ghia - wind it up and hope you get up to speed. Whereas the 2110 c.c. had enough punch to merge into traffic safely and cruise along. Both were Intermeccanica Roadsters. Depends a great deal on what type of driving you want to do.
I have two speedsters. One's fast, and dual dells. Gobbles gas and gets and spits. The others a 1600 with dual 34 ICTs. I love that 1600. I can drive the heck out of it and it is always smooth and good, good gas mileage. It gets around fast enough to be sporty and not slow. And, it is nearly bullet proof, as I do basic maintenance. Sometimes the points need sdjusted. It cruises all day at 80 mph in Texas with great oil pressure, both in gear and at idle on hot days. That kind of stuff. It's a fine motor car.
