I'm replacing my hacked up and scratched with profanity rear deck with a carrera deck I got from a fellow SOC member.

The deck was so hacked up to clear the 911 lump that there are no hinges...just two clips that slid up under the lip and a crappy lock that held it down. I could try and fab up some hinges and then try to line up everything and try and get gaps right, etc.

Or, I bought these polished stainless hinges similar to what I've seen on Parts Obsolete's outlaws. Here's a picture of the types of hinges I got.

Question is should I try and fab up the hinges first (least amount of destruction to car and deck as no holes to drill in surface) or go with the hinges in which case which hinge looks the best?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll try and fab up something underneath...I'm not really trying to go for the outlaw look.

Its snowing pretty heavy this morning so I'll have to wait to take more pictures but I'll be taking you up on your offer Allan. I took the rear hinges out of an old 66 912 and mocked them into the car...they might do the job.

Part of the problem is that the air cleaners and rain hats on the 911 lump are giving some clearance problems. Can probably be resolved....

"If you're going for the outlaw look you might consider 4 dzus fasterners ..."

Brian, the Dzus fasteners hold the lid down well and tightly, but they're a bit tough to line up initially from outside the car.
I like the three-hole hinges you've got there, myself. If I had it to do over again, that's what I'd do.

What are you doing with your old decklid?

TC and Cory...I'll keep it in mind and let you know. Snowed like heck on Sat and Sun was just perfect kite skiing weather. Sunny and warm, got sunburnt out on the ice...probably during my beverage breaks. I'll get to the deck someday...

I did manage to replace all my snaps on my top with German Tennax fasteners. That was a worthwhile exercise as they look a heck of a lot better IMHO. And only about 45 minute of work too! (that's my type of job...)

I an in the process of replacing all my snaps with Tenax fasteners.

I used English Tenax fasteners from this site:

http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/en/list+upholstery+and+trimmings~cloth+fasteners~tenax/

They were much cheaper that the German ones I was able to find.

I put a stainless steel washer under each Tenax stud. the washer is the same diameter as the snap.

The wood screw type studs and sockets come in packs of 10.

The machine screw type studs can be bought individually. I bought 2 to go in the windshield frame.

You should buy the little wrench for the sockets too.

I bought enough sockets for both the top and tonneau.

I broke off one of the studs screwing it in. Be careful. They are plated brass.
