I'm very close to being ready to paint the black stripe Speedster outlaw, but I have a couple of decisions to make.

1. Should I stay with the current silver with black stripes?
2. Should I stay with silver and ditch the stripes?
3. Should I go with all black, since the interior is black.

By the way, I may still ditch the wide 5s and go with the chrome Fuchs replicas. I know, I know, a lot of you REALLY like the wide 5s, but I REALLY like the Fuchs more! But, the nerf bars will be gone, it will have a pair of Marschall fog lights and a passenger side GT mirror.

Here are the pictures again to help you decide. (linked from outside of the SOC)

What do you think?

Absolutely keep the stripes, same-same color combo..
Go with the Fuchs over the Wide 5s, but paint the recesses one of the body colors.
Are hood straps out of the question? You'd want to drill for the hardware before paint, I'd think. Black straps would look great, and that car would sell in a New York minute.
I like the stripes, and my SAS turbo coupe will have them. However, I am only considering my personal taste. I don't care at all how the paint scheme affects resale.

You flip lots of cars. Thus,if you're flipping this one, your interest may be different. I have read lots of posts where a potential buyer wouldn't consider a certain car because he didn't like the paint scheme. For a certain market segment, cosmetics are much more important than engine, drivetrain, suspension, etc. How a car looks can be considered more important than how it performs. Go figure!
I say keep the stripes, but add a red pinstripe where the black meets the silver. Then add the detailed fuchs, make sure the center caps are the detailed one with the colored crest. Importain to bring the red and black into the wheel area. Maybe even red calipers.

Now about the engine..... Silver shroud with black stripes like the body (smaller scale) then pollished and crome accent, with red plug wires and breather hoses......

Interior: red piping for the seats.....
All silver is easier for next owner to repaint/stripe as desired.

I like the stripes though, and the wide 5s, as previously mentioned.

Presumably, you made your money when you bought the car below market. You know what these are worth, and you're buying to sell. So why you want to get all fussy about it? The Fuchs swap is money the next guy can spend, if he's a Fuchs fan.
What the hell was I thinking when I asked this question? Of course the responses are going to be all over the board and it just makes it harder for me to decide.

I guess the problem I have with whether or not to keep the Wide 5s or go with Fuchs is that when I look at Wide 5s, it just looks like the hubcaps fell off!

The Wide 5 look, that so many of you listers appreciate, is just totally lost on me. So, I project my perspective to everybody who will be looking at the pictures when the car gets to eBay and my first thought, as a potential buyer, is "man that car would look great with Fuchs on it!"

I don't know what I'm going to do, but I know this. I'm sitting here with a grin on my face at the moment and that is what it's really all about....I'm having fun doing this! Sure, I need to make a little cash to be able to keep doing it, but that's not what it's all about for me. I'm having fun!
Don't give up yet Rich. You might still have a line on these Wide 5s. Actually, let me know what you think they are worth and that might help me make my decision. email me. vanatic99 at yahoo.com

There won't be any nerfs or bumpers on this car, that has already been decided and I already have the passenger side GT style mirror. I may also go with the hood straps, but haven't ordered them as yet.
Troy, I know that answer.

The Wide-5 look is the machine stripped of decorations. In the same way as Ed's flamboyantly curved and chrome-festooned MGTD looks great with its very British wire wheels, these little German jobbers look smoking hot when they purvey the barest essentials needed to fly down the road.

Personally, I think anything more extravagant than unadorned baby moons on these cars is screaming for attention. The opposite of hubcaps would be solid wheels, like mine, or perhaps Fuchs.
Any idea what type of Wide 5's you have on there? I like the look of them (especially if you take off the hub caps), but my limited education tells me there are good ones and bad ones. First off, they are 15's right? 15's by what? They're just painted or possibly powder coated? Wait, let's back up. What type of Speedster is this? I have a Beck you may know. First I'll have to consult with the Wizard of Bremen to find out what fits what.
I think I already mentioned that the decisions have been made and I'm staying with the Wide 5s with skinz and painting it solid silver with no stripes.

She just needs a little more block sanding and she will be ready for paint. Today, I finished drilling and mounting everything that is going on the front end, mirrors, hood handle (I went with perpendicular rather than horizontal), hood straps, and fog lights. Here are a couple of pictures to get an idea of what she is going to look like. I'm pretty excited about how she is going to turn out.
