OK it has a COA but not the original engine, not sure how that works. It appears to be in excellent condition, no shots of the bottom however. One original rust bucket went for $350k recently. What is the deal with the price?

The $300K bucket that sold on BAT was all numbers matching which seems to be the cat's meow in the 356 world. Without a matching engine this'll probably get $250-300K.

He started the bid at $100k, Noel-- but the bidding is up to $120k this AM, and the reserve is "not met".
It's a marketing thing. He starts the bid low to get a buzz going (which seems to be working), but has the reserve set for what he's really asking (which is an unknown price). The reserve is likely far, far north of where the bidding is.
I'd venture to guess that the reserve is somewhere in the Mid-$200k range. That's where most non-matching number speedsters seem to sit, at minimum.

I get how it works. It seemed odd that one would sell a car of that value on eBay. That is much more of a traditional auction car. Of course the huge fees may be the motivation to sell on eBay. If the market wasn't in the tank, I would take a run at it. Even $200k would be a steal if it is not full of rust.
