SELLING: ORIGINAL SPYDER ENGINE 547/4 FOR SALE. LESS THAN 2000 MILES, PERFECT CONDITION. VERY FAST. TYPE RS/ RSK 75 K EURO
Not a bad price, $96525 US by current exchange rates ($119500 CND)!! No way I would put one of these in a replica! It costs more then my house. Engine looks f'n awesome! Saw pictures on that "Other Spyder Forum"
Just like women....wonderful to look at, heaven to touch, but its a real shame they got to cost so much. Honestly, an original engine would suck in a street car. Why do you think that these babies had roller bearing cranks? Th
One just sold for $45K USD about six months ago. I know one of the premier 550/RSK restorers in Southern California (right now he's restoring 550-001 for Porsche) and he told me the price range is between $35K to $60K. So you might want to hang on to it for a while until the market value goes up to what you want for it.
They're beautiful works of art and make a great conversation piece in the living room... and an absolute pain-in-the-*ss to keep tuned.
This is for Tom Ciborowski statement about roller-bearing cranks.
1. They had nothing to do with having no torque below 5k, I know this because I have 40 years experience with Harley-Davidson Sportsters which have roller-bearing cranks and big-end connecting rods. They have a torque peak well below 5k and red line at 6500.
2. Roller-bearing cranks DID have somthing to do with the engineers not wanting to rely upon the oil pump to generate 40-80 psi to support the babbitt type bearings used in most engines.
Just thought I'd clear-up that little misconception.
