Original Wiper Arms

Is it possible to install original speedster wiper arms? Not just have the black wiper arms on. Is there an adapter possibly to install the originals on. I notice most repos give themselves away by the black wiper arms. Thanks.... John

Your right about the repos I decided to chrome my old VW ones, and send them to Advanced Plating in Tenn. They did a good job on my D windshield frame ,and some other small parts ,they even do gold plate.

Yes but does anyone know if you can use originals on the kitcar? Would be very nice though.

TWO options I explored:


1. Find an early wiper motor and assembly from a 356 and build an adaptor for mounting. Then you can order original or repro arms and blades that will fit the spindles.

2. Have a friend or machine shop mill down the posts from a standard VW wiper arm mechanism. (they are too thick in circumference). I tried this twice (on my own mill) and each time the spindles cracked.

Please let me know when you take them to the machine shop, and how it works out. I thnik you are on the something thou... Good idea...

If all you have to do is make the diameter smaller and you are cracking them when milling or turning them, I suggest you find a shop with OD grinding capability and have them ground down.
