I keep hearing people refer to our little cars as Outlaws. What exactly does that mean? Is it an outrageous, not so authentic, bomb of a Speedster? Excuse me for being such a newbie dummie. As some of you may know, I ordered a VS Speedster. It's still not right, but I will explain when the thing is done. I am thinking of building a 58 or 59 Speedster Carrera, but keeping it authentic. Would that be an outlaw?

Outlaw is like hot-rod. No clear definition. But no one ever says, gee what a cute little car when they ride in an outlaw/hot-rod. They say things like "wow," "OMG" "YEE FREAKING HAW" and other things that the language censor will stomp out if I write them.

Outlaw/hotrod is all about attitude. About presence. A very powerful super nice stock car is never an outlaw. The car you describe, in very stock appearance will be "super nice" but not an outlaw. If you lower it a little too far, put wheels that are too wide on, barely street legal tires and fierce exhaust to a stout engine throwing out far more HP than any self respecting manufacturer dreamed of - now you are moving into Outlaw territory.

Outlaws are the bad boys of the speedster world. We are irresistably drawn to them like a moth to the flame.
