The new ones, approved for street use, are an aluminum/magnesium alloy, and are powder-coated silver.  Looks like about $4,000/set of four if you can find them.  Old ones were magnesium, but were only race-approved.  Weight went from 9 lbs to 12.2 for new alloy DOT-approved models. I lusted after a set years ago, but couldn't do it.  They sure are tasty, eh?

Yeah, James, those are the shoes on Ted's car. I think Stan runs them as well. They're as light as original forged Fuchs (as opposed to the cast copies that weigh 4-5 lbs more).

David- Do you have some steel wide 5 wheels now? Mount 1 on the front and then the rear and check that it will clear the calipers. Stock they were 4 or 4 1/2" and I've never heard of them made any wider than 5 1/2", so you'll probably have to have them widened. Depending on what you start with they may need outer as well as inner hoops to match the offsets/spacing that your Fuchs have now. There are places around that do this kind of work; the local hotrod shops and tire stores that do a lot of custom stuff will know who to talk to. Note, though, if you're going from original Fuchs, the steel wheels (especially in 7 and 8" widths) will be significantly heavier. Expect to pay 200- $300 a wheel.

The Tecnomagnesio would be very cool if you could get them in the widths/offsets you want! Al

Mine are CNC Bivens AL wheels-- and yes, they are very light. They were available in custom off-sets when they were being produced. I bought my set from the guy who bought George Brown's second IM, and then refinished them myself (they were pretty bad when I got them). George had the first set ever put on a replica, Jim Ward put them on "Ruby" (now Al Shapiro's car), and I think a guy named Brooks Walton also put them on another IM, and I'm not sure if anybody else out there got them, but I've never seen any others. Regardless, they are unobtainium now.

The Technomagnesio wheels are really, really cool though, and are pretty much the only current choice I know of. The offset isn't bad.
