Steven,

You must have been looking at the flared cars, most of the traditional Speedsters I've seen have them, mine included. I agree with the flared guys not having them, would look a little "busy", but on the regular Speedster the car seems to lack the right look without them. I guess they do add a little body protection also, but not much. I think they are strictly for the looks.

Do you mean the vertical bumper guards, or the horizonal tubular reinforcements for them, or both? The guards with tubular reinforcements came in two different variations and two different guard heights; see Dr. Thiriar's book. The plain "short" bumper guards without the horizonal bars were called the Euro bumper guards.
I was talking about the horizontal support bars... I was under the impression that horizontal bars were the "overriders" and the vertical was bumper gaurd..... I may be wrong on this I'm still a newbee.

Oh, BTW my new cost estimate for building the IM of my dreams is $49,000....God help me if the wife finds out!!!

Steven,

Yes, I'll do it soon, been meaning to do it but always forget. A couple of pictures of my car on the JPS web site. Mine is the red Speedster under the classic header. In the gallery section, the bright yellow one is mine. John Leader did some magic turning it yellow! Also in the gallery the red speedster in front of the covered bridge is mine also, 2 pics of that. The bridge is in downtown Eagle Point, Oregon. They were taken on July 5th this year, the day after I took delivery on our nations birthday. I'll post some shots also to my registry.

Yes, I was pulling your leg a little bit with the "chrome eyebrows", but my how I do love the chromed things.....by the way the chrome eyebrows I was speaking of our just like the little cap bills you were thinking of......and believe it or not they were offered in the original 356 as a U.S. "dress up option"......but I have never seen a 356 which actually had them, nor do I know if anyone actually ordered them in the 50's.....george did you ever see such a thing??
