We've had 4-6 Spyders participate in this event the past few years - and last year Troy joined us with his widebody Speedy which attracted a lot of attention....
.
it's a Pebble Beach weekend event that you can sign yourself up for - replica-friendly - typically it doesn't 'sell out' competely and you can sign up at http://www.pgautorally.org/
.
this is a good time and a rare opportunity to be IN one of the fun events of the Pebble Beach weekend (1-5pm informal concours on the streets of Pacific Grove, followed by a 'Rally' around the Monterey Peninsula/17 mile drive, Pebble Beach, downtown Carmel - to thousands of cheering folks along the sides of the roads......
.
no big hurry for sign up for the event BUT....
.
hotel rooms are tough to find and/or cost a bunch/have multiple night stay requirements.
.
it's not too soon to book a hotel if you want to join in the fun......you may need to 'work' hotel sites, Expedia, etc to find something that fits you.
.
Hope to see a bunch of Speedy folks there!

Just wanted to bump this up so nobody forgets about it.  It's right around the corner on Friday, August 17th.  Here is the link.  http://www.pgautorally.org/event_info.htm

Again, this is truly a world class event, like being at the Olympics or the Super Bowl.  Sort of like when we would do the Morro Bay parade, but instead of just a couple of blocks, its miles and miles of cheering crowds and hundreds of cars.  Even though it is a "Concours" your car will not be judged and no matter what its condition, you will be welcome.  You really do not want to miss this.

I was a little bit late arriving last year and didn't wind up being with the Spyder guys.  It would be great if we could all be grouped together as part of a Speedster/Spyder corral.

Additionally, if you have the time there are tons of other events before and after the Pacific Grove Concours Rally.  Here are a few links.

Only two weeks away!

That would be good - What the Spyder folks did last year was to park the cars somewhere close to the registration desk and 'line up' to register a bit before 1PM -

so meeting ~ 12:45 has worked well for us in the past - if you can gather the Speedster folks similarly - we can park as a 'block' or as two close together blocks...generally you're not able to park until you've registered and gotten your packet and car number....while you can register later - the early registration puts you in the start of the pack for the later Rally - and traffic flows better at the front - plus you finish and eat earlier....(if you're going to the following bbq dinner).  Nice to see the strong interest and participation from SOC - hope you enjoy this event as much as our Spyder folks have..... RickJ

You got that right, Troy. The entire week is filled with races, auctions, the P.G. rallye, the Pebble Beach Concours (including the free pre-concours tented sale), and the Carmel car show along Ocean Avenue. This is THE event of the year anywhere in California, and probably the entire nation. The "rallye" at Pacific Grove is fun. Lots of different cars (hot rods, etc.), and wonderful people. IIRC, they start registration at 1:00, but it might be earlier.

My experience is that I found lodging in Salinas. If Salinas is full, try Morgan Hill or Gilroy. Morgan Hill is about an hour away, and the room cost is far less than that found in and directly around the Monterey-Pacific Grove-Carmel-Carmel Valley area. By now they are more than likely full-up anyway. Rick J might have suggestions as to which hotel/motels in particular might deserve a look-see.

I attended the last PG rally around 3 years ago, so things might have changed. There is a motel called "The Wilkies" on the main drag, closer to the ocean. It used to be a nice little motel, but it was sold a while back. My wife and I stayed there about a year or so ago, and it had really gone downhill. A good place is the "Bide-a-Wee Inn," but I would guess that they have also raised their room rates to the moon, just as have most of the lodging places. My advice: find some place out of town and commute.

Leaving in a few hours for the trip north....New truck arrived last week, but still taking the T-Bird..

I have my computer, so i will keep in touch via the SOC....Have no spacific plan other than the concours on Sunday & Laguna Seca on Saturday...returning Monday....

I'll see what kind of havoc I can reak....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
