I am going to tackle the task of replacing the wiring system in my CMC. I would like to upgrade to get more power to the headlight etc. I have a bosch 75 amp alternator that for the charging system. I have read that JPS has a decent wiring system though there is not to much info . I would like to upgrade to the newer GM fuses. Has anyone tried to install the Painless Wiring system harness? The 12 circuit universal looks like it will do the job. Any input fellow speedster owners?
Thanks,
Joe S

Joe,

I wonder if your headlight problem can't be fixed with new headlight tails, or whatever they are called. aircooled.net sell them, they are inexpensive.

I have read where headlight sockets tarnish over time so the male and female ends don't make good contact, thus dim head lights. You could try spraying contact cleaner on the two fittings. That may work. Or replace the tails.
Joe,
I have used Painless wiring several times on glas' bodied street rods.
They are middle of the road price wise with good quality. They also
have easy to understand instructions. Remember to have Good Grounds,
very important on a glas' body as nothing will be grounded just by
mounting it!

Ditto on Jim's comments above. Used Painless Kit on a retro 54 Chevy 3100 1/2T and a 37 Chevy with power everything inside, plus air. Both were easy to use, complete, great instructions, and good quality. I'm sure a VW set up with your personal mods should be a piece of cake... and I echo the point about having good grounding.
