Paint

I'm about ready to have my car painted and I want a color that I believe was called "British Racing Green" Can anyone tell me how to find a color swatch or chip so I can give this info to my painter? Is there any place to look for colors that I might want? I never even considered a problem like this when I decided to build my car. Thanks!

Years ago painted a '65 TR Spitfire and '59 AH Bugeye Sprite. I just looked up British Racing Green for a '65 MGB at the time. What not German Racing Silver? I honestly can't say I've seen a Speedster BRG. Tan Top and interior?

Guy claims its a VS -- but sure looks like CMC Vintage gauges and few other things. Got a little PORSCHE emblem happy. Ouch, $25K.

BRG is a pigment color, not metallic. I learned that when I re-sprayed one of my cars.

my memories of that color were on Triumphs, TR4?

I did do a search, but only came up with some info that meant nothing to me and no picture to compare. In 1967 I saw a car in Southern Ca that was painted what I was told was British Racing Green and I decided then that someday when I had a car it would be that color. I'm a Marine so that has something to do with the green thing I suppose. Maybe I should try a metalic Marine Corps Green? No offense to the German paint people.

Marine - then you have to check out stone grey -- it an OD like green that was used on 356 way back in 57-59 as a special color -- it looks great with tan interior or light grey. I think it would be a good resale color too!

I have an original 356 that I'm working on that was a dark green from the factory with brown seats and door panels.

The 356A Porsche color (57-59) was Fjord green #5705-a beautiful deep
and complex green with a blue hue when combined with a tan interior
provided a rich and elegant combination...the BRG contains yellow
which only seems right on British cars to me..

If BRG wouldn't fit a Porsche, then in that view all had to be Silver, as the silver arrows, right?

I'd say that, while the Country Racing Colors still have some tradition (and the racing stripes for the USA originate mostly from there), nowadays it isn't as 'die-hard'.

If it looks good, then why not? :)

New Zealand - green and silver?

I'd have thought orange as in McLaren, as in Can-Am, as in the greatest race series ever.

Well, until Porsche and Mark Donohue driving for Roger Penske came along and totally dominated. Killed it off. Created some affordable race cars for the classic race groups, that's a plus.

Thanks Pedro - I'll add that to my favorites. Anyone who was reading Road and Track through the fifties should know those colors and countries by heart. That was a golden time! I was lucky enough to see some of it up close and personal.

If I ever make a track-purpose car, it will sport Portuguese national colors (even if they, well, aren't that good looking) :)
