I've recently discovered that Gulf Blue was a proprietary color with both aquamarine and true blue in it. So, since it's to be Gulf Lemans colors, I'll now need the codes for Gulf Blue and (according to Angela) Marigold Orange.
Anybody know what they are or where to find them? I will donate to the charity of your choice -- as long as it sells coffee -- for the answers!
(Plan B involves buying a hundred-dollar scale model of 917K #20 and taking it to the 'scan-my-paint-and-tell-me-what-color-your-computer-thiks-this-is' machine. That's dicey, what with color-scale conversions and all.)

Varies by year, here's a Glasurit cheat sheet. Put in the make (porsche) and name of the color (gulf blue) if you know it or code if you know it and hit search.

http://www.glasurit.com/COLOR/new-color-online/m1frameset.php?language=1

Shows code #328 for 72-75 and 6603 for 65-66. Both look kinda dark to me. But I cross-referenced it with some other things on the Pelican BBS and even though on my monitor the color looks off, it is the correct code. Also try Gulf Orange for the other color (#019).

What about a nice shade of BF-109?

Seriously ...
Bill, I'm kidding. I'm still going with the Gulf theme. I really like the way it loks on the old racers, and I've already got the powdercoat done. No goin' back now!
TC, I'll consult wi'tcha on the next one!
"I've already got the powder coat done. No goin' back now!"

A sweet dark metallic Anthracite with gold metallic dust added for a shadow of green in the off-light. Twin wide dark-silver stripes. Orange tubing, aluminum wheels and interior. Black seats, steering wheel wrap, and pads. Gold scripts against the Anthracite . . . .

That would look MONEY ! ! ! ! ! ! !

The way that you're planning it now is gonna make it look like a coin operated kids ride outside of a low-rent department store . . .

I think that paying visual homage to a factory track car takes away from your own skill, design, effort and endeavor.

THAT'S what I THINK.
Cory - TC's picking on you! His color scheme would be great but so is yours. I'll tell you a little secret. Quite a few people told us our spyder would look terrible in black. We painted it that way anyway.

Gulf Blue and Orange - practically screams getyerassoutta my way!

That's the one, Bill. Except that the paint's unfortunately adhered itself to someone's little red wagon.
What were they thinking that day in the paint booth?
"Hey, Moe, we got this crappy old Ford out here. Whaddya want we should do with it?"
"F*** that thing. Use whatever leftover high-dollar paint we got, and make it look like one of those coin-op rides like they got at the A&P. Charge e'm a million bucks, and then call that Drake guy. Tell him he's next and to bring his checkbook. G'wan, get outta here."
Nice picture, Vince.
Hey Cory

It's been a while since i've visited and posted. Happy to see that Hoopty is nearing completion. My first born took a header this morning requiring 3 stitches. What does this have to do with your color dilema! Well, my wife picked him up a Matchbox - Ford GT #K2596 at the local Stop& Shop.

$1.19 I'm not sure if Matchbox is your answer, but worth a look. I no longer have access to a colorimeter, so I can't get you a paint reading off it.

GOOD NIGHT, IRENE!
If one more person makes a FORD GT reference, I'm going to ask TC for the particulars on the gold-flake-charcoal-green-in-the-dark "Three Mile Island" paint!

No. Seriously, I've seen a couple different photos -- not just here -- of the blue, and that's really what I'm hung up on. Some of the photos show that to be almost a sky blue, others a really nice shade of robin's-egg blue and then there are some examples where the blue almost looks aqua green.
GTs aside, I'm going to take the numbers you guys have given me to the guy, and I'm going to take him a scrap of primered aluminum to try a whole bunch of color variants out on -- and then we're going to scan the orange on the chassis to get it to be an exact match.
We'll de-engineer that and get a number for it to punch into my paint-code plate.
Sorry, TC.

Mel, welcome back. I trust everything is okay?
I hate to admit it, but that GT was probably exactly right. If the Mustang blue is even close, the numbers should be what I'm looking for.
I can't remember who told me (TC, or maybe Angela?), but Gulf Blue is supposed to be the name of the color I'm looking for.
I do like the combo on the GT. In the absence of a precise match, I'll print the photos Jim and Bill posted. It looks like the orange will be right on.
If I can find a picture of my dads 65 it was the same color.

In 1978 my baby brother made a light pole ornament out of it. He only got minor injuries. The car was pure junk.

Ford is bad to rename a color when they put it on something else. Even worse they usally had 5 or 6 color that would all be close to one another.

Marina blue on a 72 super beetle will be very close. what Im thinking of Anyone got a paint chip to compare by .

If your color is lighter. I want to be certain.
Cory
This is a 911 in the older of the two gulf blue codes shown in the glasurit chart. I rather suspect that the old gulf blue and the newer gulf blue are really similar, but this car looks much darker than the gulf blue I'm used to seeing. I think you should pull the deck-lid and have it shot in the colors you want. Make sure that's the way you want to go before you commit the rest of the car. Of course, you know my penchant for fishcop...
