Anyone know of a good paint shop that's not to expensive painting engine parts? I want my DTM fan shroud painted and the price I've gotten so far is $300 base/clear. Thought that was a bit expensive.
Any help would be appreciative.

There was a place off of Rt 28 that used to do custom work for me. It's been 7 years since I lived there and for the life of me, I can't remember the name. Will search my old phone for the number when I get home.
Where are you located?
I had a local shop paint a fender for me for $75 cash, base/clear. However, that doesn't help you at all.
I am just trying to say keep looking, there are good little mom and pop shops out there.
Dale (Schu) with red MG-TD has a guy he's been using in Fredericksburg area - contact him here on SOC. Not sure if MAACO does small jobs like that but they be fine for such a project. I suspect you could do a good DIY job if you prep-ed (de-wax, scuff up, primed) and painted with rattle cans for $40.

Thank Bill. I'm located in Alexandria, VA.

I actually thought about that. But I live in a TH, one car garage (speedster currently in, working on the interior) and no back yard. Plus, I've never painted with a can before want the DTM to actually look good!
I can't find or remember. Rattle can will look good as long as it's prepped well and you take your time.
I am pretty good at occasional rattle can refinishing but the ultimate test last year is deciding to paint my former Harley with black Dupli-color....surfaces were as new so prep was minimal that being soap and water and removing any oils then a light scuff sanding with 600 followed by Dupli-color primer sealer. For a beautiful gas resistant and high end finish, Eastwood makes a rattle can clear that you need to compress the bottom of the can to activate the two part process. It has a unique rattle can nozzle that produces a high end air gun spray pattern and it works! This lays out so well it needs no color sanding or buffing unless you get a few dust bits in it as I did . My cost was about $75 and looked like a $1,000 job. I am going to do my current bike in a few weeks wit the exact the same process.

How about if I drop off some parts Alan, then you can "show me" how it's done!
That would work for me.....
Bring them to Carlisle
Is this just a stock OEM metal shroud or a Raby DTM fiberglass shroud? Fiberglass can not be powder coated, of course due to high heat used. I like the look of the Rustoleum Hammered look paint - especially if the parts have rust marks or dents. You can do it in garage or driveway if you get a large cardboard box to contain over spray. Power coating holds up well on metal - plus lots of colors available - expect to pay about $100 for shroud and I'd do cylinder tine and breast plates to match.
Raby DTM fiberglass shroud.
Thanks, but the DTM is fiberglass. I do have the surrounding tin from awesomepowdercoating.
Scott,
The guy I use in Fredburg is Tom's Auto body in the White Oak area off RT 3.
A 45 minute drive for you but reasonable cost. I will say that his work is good but not the best you can buy and his price bears this out.
At least give him a call and see what he will do.
