For large chips : Make a hole in a piece of blue masking tape and lay that over the chip. Dab 2 - 3 layers of paint allowing each one to dry and settle a bit ..usually the third will dry level with the tape so it is a bit higher than the surrounding painted surface. With a new straight edge blade I slice off the high area flush with the tape this allows a few "mills" to work with. Remove the tape, then ...slightly .... wet sand a bit with 1500 paper w/ soap and water and buff it out even . This can also be done for a scratch by running tape on both sides of the scratch an do the same repair steps.  It's not 100% but it does greatly improve the cosmetic appearance.
