Hi everyone,

I would like to paint my speedster myself ,
I am an industrial designer so I have plenty of spraypainting experiance and am handy with a spray gun so I am confident that I will achieve a good finish.
The problem is that i have heard horror storys about paint jobs that have come undone and spider webs forming in the sun from inpropper proparation etc.

I am sure there are a few of you who know a thing or two about what to do and what not to do when it comes to spraying fiberglass cars. One of the guys I spoke to suggested the best way to get a good finish is to COMPLETELY remove the gell coat and resurface everything with a body filler ! (either spot putty or polyester body filler ! ) Also any tips on getting the door jams and body seams perfect would be great.

Thanks

Have fun

Roger

Roger,
Take a look at this book.
http://www.houseofkolor.com.au/product_category.php?category=Colour%20Chip%20Manual,%20DVDs,%20Videos,%20Books&cat_index=19
Kustom Kolor paints are used in the book. But comparable products are avail. from Dupont, or wherever you get your supplies.

House of Kolor system is:
Soapy water Clean
Wax & oil remover Clean
Tac cloth Clean the surface
Then 2 or 3 part primer /filler
block sand til you're satisfied...
2 or 3 part base coat
2 or 3 part clear coat

Optional:
Color Sand, polish

The book "Kustom Painting Secrets" isn't very well written, and tends to wander and gets off track. But it has all of the steps and precautions in using the current paint systems.
