Palm Springs Run Dec 12th/13th

It will 15 degrees on Friday morning when we head off to San Diego, brrrrrr-cold. We are going to have to bring out the winter coats for the ride to the airport. I wanted to travel light but looks like we will need a bag just to carry coats. Still looking forward to this cruise. See you guys in less than a week.

Marty, you can pretty much guarnetee (sorry spelling) that it won't be 15 degrees when you land in Diego! LOL.. Hope you guys have a great ride.. I am still on the fence here because of Brandon's Wrestling meet that Friday and possiblly Saturday at Edison H.S in Huntington Beach.

You guys are gonna laugh at me. I need to bring Sandy's Uncle Vito some baby octopuss. Its probably illegal(the fish itself not the transport)in CA. Can I bring this stuff on the plan? This is not my speciality, I need some advice here.

Gerd - punch in 31694 Rancho Viejo Rd, San Juan Capistrano, CA. If that doesn't register on your GPS, then change the city name to Mission Viejo.

Otherwise, just get to the 210 Fwy (EAST) to the 57 Fwy (SOUTH) to the I-5 Fwy (SOUTH) into Orange County. 10 miles south of the junction of I-5/405 Fwys ("Y") exit onto Ortega Hwy (Hwy 74- San Juan Capistrano) and turn LEFT onto Ortega hwy. Continue 3 blocks to 2nd traffic signal turn RIGHT onto Rancho Viejo. Continue 100 yards on Rancho Viejo to first driveway entrance to shopping plaza on left, turn LEFT into shopping plaza parking lot.

OK, does not look good for dry weather on Saturday, but what do those weather people know with all their fancy dopler crap.....
I will say that if it is raining, I am choosing to take an alternate vehicle....I will wait till the last minute to make that decision...
El Diablo is being prepped as we speak, but no sense in intentionally getting wet.
Half the fun is being with this crazy group, and some wet weather can't take that away from us....

We'll make the car decision at the last minute as well. The weather won't be an issue in Palm Springs, but in the higher elevation of the Palms to Pine Hwy (5,000ft) where there will definitely be some snow/ice.

Marty - Will and I discussed alternate vehicles for you & Sandy as well. Either way, you'll have fun driving.

Larry Bull - you're welcome to ride with us if there is inclement weather. We can meet at the 2nd rendezvous (Hwy 74 off the 215 fwy in Lake Elsinore) Chevron Station.

Due to the unusual storm pattern we're experiencing, this has turned into 'The-SOC-Drive-Your-Other-Car-To-Palm-Springs' cruise (or also known as "I-Hope-I-Survive-This-Weekend-Hanging-With-Gerd-And-Vince").

OMG, you guys are going to have a blast, who cares what you drive. GERD quit saying your now going, you know you are just trying to make trouble :-)

Be careful driving over the top of the mountain. The roads can get very slippery with ice and snow.
Good luck finding a "straight bar" in Palm Springs.
If some guy puts the hit on you, fight the urge to hit him back. Some of those younger guys work out a lot.
Have fun, stay together and stay warm.
Again, don't drive too fast going down the hill. Too many folks have gone airborne off that highway in good weather. You guys are troopers for doing this, just be careful.

Jim, if we are taking alternate cars and driving in the rain, should we consider a route that is safer, without the twisties, but still scenic....whatever you decide is OK by me...

OK...I guess it would be a good Idea to give you guys the destination information.....The condo is on the way into town on the 111 (Palm Canyon)
We have a 3 Bedroom condo and a 2 Bedroom condo at this location, but not necessarily next to each other....
I'm thinking Jim, Gerd and myself in the 3 bedroom and Marty and Larry in the 2 bedroom, if we have other takers, we have murphy beds in both condo's.....the Murphy beds will get breaks on the fee since it is not an actual bedroom, If we have 5 couples, perhaps Larry (who I believe will be a single) can have a Murphy and let a couple have a bedroom...
I am bringing games in case we end up spending the evening holed up, if it rains...I am also bringing the Oban, if you don't drink scotch then BYOB.....

2nd RENDEZVOUS at 11:30AM in Lake Elsinore (this is for Larry Bull)

1st RENDEZVOUS 10:00AM in San Juan Capistrano on Hwy 74:
* Be mindful that the traffic can get pretty heavy as you approach the 405/5 Junction (The Y). Please allow for this in your drive time.
* VINCE - take the 405 to the I-5 South and proceed to San Juan Capistrano.
* GERD however you decide to get to the I-5 to Orange County and proceed to San Juan Capistrano.
* San Juan Capistrano is approx 10 miles south of the 405/5 junction. Exit on Ortega Hwy (74 Hwy). Turn LEFT onto Ortega Hwy continue to 2nd traffic signal (Rancho Viejo Rd) and turn RIGHT
* Continue on Rancho Viejo 100 yds to shopping plaza entrance on LEFT. Convene in parking lot on the left.
* Leaving this location at 10:30 AM and continue East on Ortega Hwy (74) for 30 miles to Lake Elsinore.

* 2nd RENDEZVOUS at 11:30AM in Lake Elsinore. Meet with Larry Bull at the Chevron Station on Hwy 74/Central Ave exit off I-15. We can top off fuel and stop for lunch.

* After lunch continue East on Hwy 74 through Hemet and continue onto Palms to Pines Hwy down into Palm Canyon. This cruise segment will be about 60 miles.
NOTE: This route may change according to weather. We can decide during lunch. There is another route that would eliminate a good portion of twisties but still allow us to descend on Palms to Pines Hwy into Palm Canyon.

* ETA in Palm Canyon about 3:30PM

* Estimated time of total inebriation = 3:45PM

Gerd, If you are planning on taking the 405 South and want to meet me in Redondo Beach, then Exit the 405 at Inglewood Ave, turn right and stop at the gas station corner Inglewood Ave and Manhattan beach Blvd. (I think it is a 76 station) I will meet you at 8:30-8:45 at that location...Otherwise, see you in San Juan Capistrano....

Remember the 2 bedroom Condo is for 2 nights if anyone wants to spend an extra nght....

Teri and I need to leave Sunday morning around 8:00-8:30 because we are in the El Segundo Xmas Parade with El Diablo...Sunday afternoon is suppose to be sunny as of now, if the weather changes, we may scrub the parade, but I am suppose to carry two dignitaries, so I need to think about that one...
