Hire a mean looking big dude with dark sunglasses in a cheap suit to stand next to the car...
Does your car have a starter lockout?
...also they have alarms now with motion sensors that will say, "You Are Too Close To The Vehicle" when someone reaches inside. If they keep going the alarm will say, "Help I Am Being Violated".... and if the intruder still persists the alarm will yell "RAPE!!!" all thru your stereo system.
Park in a location that everyone will be checking it out. Too many people watching, no one will do anything.
Summer parking, I pull the tonneau over and walk away.
Winter Parking, I put steeringwheel bar lock on and walk away.
I never have anything in the car so no really reason for anyone to get in except to take the whole car.

You definately have to keep the car in public view. Starter lockout is good to have too.
A battery disconnect is quick and cheap. To disable the car just pull the distributor rotor---she's not starting then!
I thought my paranoria would subcide with time but that has not been the case. When we go out to dinner, the choice of restaurant is sometimes determined by how easy it is to see the Speedster from our table!
I have a kill switch which disconnects all the "keyed" circuits and a fuel pump cut off switch... Both are hidden, along with the wiper, and light switches...(nothing on the dash.)
hey if they want to steal it they will. i never worried but never left anything of value in it
I have Insurance....If they want it they can have it....thinking about a coupe anyway....
come to think about it, I may leave the keys in it....
They're stealable but, really, how often does it happen? I leave the TD in downtown Baltimore all day sometimes. It's got a fire bottle in it and a couple wrenches in the passenger compartment. So far, so good.
And this is in a town that's just teaming with junkies who will steal anything, any time. One time someone cut the top on my 'vert Pontiac just to get at a couple quarters and nickels in the center console.
But the TD? People don't mess with it, because it's seen as something like art. They'd rather smash the window out of the BMW that's parked next to it than start riffling around in the TD.
And as for joy-riders, I'm finding that the best anti-theft device is on the floor, right next to the brake pedal. It's called a clutch.
Kids these days--they dunno what that is.
All good ideas, especially the hidden kill switches.
When my TD was "new", back when I built it in the early 80's, I never parked anywhere without taking the rotor or pulling the coil wire. That paranoia lasted a couple years.
Now I'll park just about anywhere. The car's insured. If someone really wants it, Id rather they drive it away in one piece.
My VS is a daily driver so I leave it in the parking lot pretty often. Like BADSPD, I just zip up the tonneau cover and not leave anything valuable in it. Like Vinny says, your confidence would be better spent on the proper insurance policy (agreed value).
Drive it and enjoy it!
I don't touch a thing. I just make sure I don't leave anything worth taking inside the Spyder. If the car is stolen, it is well-insured. I park it where it won't get dings on the side, and try to park away from the herd, but within eyesight, if possible. I try not to park under trees when birds are active.
I do have door locks and use them when I park somewhere away from home overnight. This will stop some otherwise nice person from opening the door for a better look, but not somebody with serious larceny on their minds. I used to have an el cheapo alarm system but haven't used it in years. There is also an ignition kill setup under the dash that I have never used. I guess I mostly count on taking care of where I park and trusting my luck.
Most potential thieves or opportunity thieves would have little idea of how to drive one of these cars anyway. Speedsters may be stolen for an impulse joyride, but a large number of cars are stolen for re-sale, and with the small but somewhat tightly knit speedster community, a stolen car hopefully would not get too far on the auction block, so to speak.
Just park your car in a very conspicuous location, but away from any potential risks.
