The Campout is later this year to include it in the Porsche Parade week in Portland. The dates are August 4-6 in McMinnville, Oregon. Southwest of Portland about 30-40 miles. This is lots of fun and a chance to visit the Emory's shops and parts outlet. They always have some neat 356's in the shop under restoration and also on display outside are a number of creative 356 Outlaws.

For more information, Google the Parts Obsolete Website. Can't go wrong with this event! Bring your tent and camping gear for even more fun!

Rich,

Most definatly Saturday, Sunday is the Swap Meet but not much there you can't check out in 15 minutes. I am coming in On Friday as well as lots of other people. If you are only going to do the one day deal and don't want the chili feast in the evening, then you might be better off just to pay for the one day event. Pay at the entrance when you come in. Don't forget to get the Map Quest map from the Parts Obsolete web site as the grounds are well hidden, or follow a 356, LOL! They offer other food so you waon't go hungry.

Replicas are welcome with open arms. Only trailer queens are shunned (unless it is a race car). In the open awards category replicas have picked up top stops over the last couple of years. AT a porsche meet, voted on by the exhibitors (porsche people).

Fun, good natured absolute car nuts. You won't regret going. And you will see cars that you have only seen in pictures, find parts in the barns that you've been searching for - for years and make have a great BBQ to boot!

Angela,

Are you and Steve going up on Friday? I'm planning on Friday and the back road from Trail to Canyonville and then jump off 5 around Eugene. How bout you guys? Was over at the engine shop and they fired up the new 2110 for the first time, sounds healthy as hell and the carbs wern't synched or the engine timed. Can't wait for the trip to Parts Obsolete!

Just a reminder about the Campout in two weeks put on by Parts Obsolete in McMinnville, Oregon. It is August 4-6 and will be running the weekend the Porsche Parade is starting in Portland. There will be many, many P cars and replicas running around the NW. This is a great meet at the Emory's compound each year. I always look forward to it. Our cars have won prizes each of the last several years so we are accepted!

The Parts Obsolete web site has all the info you'll need as well as a map which you'll probably need if you've never been there, LOL. It is SW of McMinnvile a few miles, out in the country. It is an active winery area so there are wines to sip while in the region. Bring your tent and join in the tent and campsite contest!
Another fun trip to Emory's place... So many neat people to visit with again - looking forward to next year. There's something for everyone here. **Congrats to Scott Sloan for Open Car prize**

Thought you guys might get a kick out of some pics. I've never seen a bent window cab, but two of them drove to this show.

Hey Rich!

Glad to hear you guys had a great time at Parts Obsolete Camp-out!
Those pics are great - I'm guessing there was a LOT of cool Porsche stuff to photograph.

Can you give some detail on the crew-cab VW combi in the background of the picture you posted.

My goal is to have a nice 3.2 911-powered crew-cab to tow our Speedy on a custom trailer.

Love to see more pics of the camp-out!

Peace - Out!
The Kombi was a 6, but I do not know the displacement. There were 3 VW vans that showed up with flat sixes in them...drool...drool... And a Kubelwagen (probably misspelled that) complete with GUNS! WE spent a couple of hours wandering through the barns looking for odd little parts that we needed. The barns themselves are such a treat (bring flashlights) - where else do you find an original 906 frame, new never built hanging from a wall? Or a 904 rear clip? Remember the 959? How about the original body panels from one that was rebuilt after running Paris Dakar?

And a fellow has crammed an old MFI 6 into a real 356 coupe. Build yer own outlaw! Very intelligently done with the firewall area cut and moved forward so the engine could be moved forward as well. The fellow really thought out his trailing arm/weight distribution etc. Very clever guy - genuine car nut - you all would have loved him!

One real neat story involved an original speedster. The fellow who owned it is about 65-70ish - a real character. Seems that 40 years ago he was driving to his wedding rehearsal and was late. Pushed the little car too much and the engine blew up. Then life happened. The car sat not running in storage for 40 years. He got it running the week before the show and brought it. No rust, but some primer spots, very weak (original) paint etc. But running/driving. I don't think anything could have wiped off his smile!

Hey Angela!

I bet you were like a kid in a candy shop going through those parts-bins! Too much fun. I have an affinity for crew cab Kombis, one of these days I'll have one with that flat-6 (when I figure out where I can park/store it)!

Jim Ward took a very cool pic of you and your son blasting by in your Spyder - are you having fun yet?

I remember all the hub-bub about the intro of the 959 back when. Too bad it was never legal in the States. I included some pics of someone at the local car meet that brought his 'replica' 959 (based on an '83 Carrera).

Peace - Out!

Kid in a candy shop definately describes me at the Emory's place (campout). You can literally spend hours just checking stuff out.

I've actually never seen a Kombi until this meet, at least not that I remember. Boy, they are COOL! Steve went nuts - he wants to buy one, like this one, a double cab (crew cab?). It just has cool pouring out of both doors.

The pic Jim shot of Ryan and I is probably my favorite of our car. It epitomizes exactly what the spyder is about for me - a fun fast adventure!

The best part about Parts Obsolete is how much fun, off the wall, outside of the box stuff is a-okay with everyone. Plenty of exquisite rare vintage perfectly restored cars, but a huge amount of unusual exciting creative works.

I love it. I'll be back again next year (for the 4th time).

Jim,
The Kombi has been added to my "drag home" list. Steve and I have a list of cars that we would "drag home" in substantial disarray/nonrunning/decidedly rusty etc. Probably try to avoid alot of rust on the Kombi as parts accessibility will an issue. No motor, no tires, yadayaa - a okay!

By the way, I've seen the vans with 3.2's in them using the short geared bus transaxle. No top speed but they do WHEELIES! I mean how completely emotionally immature yet vastly entertaining would that be? Any wuss can do a burnout - but a wheelie? Oh my!

See all-you-all next year!
