Paso Robles

Hey Theron!

Judging by the number of SOC members/cars responding for attendance at Paso Robles (I think 30 cars, so far), any idea if there will be an area at the Paso event big enough to accommodate our group in one collective area? Only 4 weeks away! WOOOHOOO!!

Yes, we are supposed to have the larger part of the park. The frightening thing is that I think at least another 10-15 cars are going in addition to the 30 that have responded from this site. That includes a group of spyders and possibly original 356s from the local Porsche club.

Sounds like you guys are gonna have a blast up there... Wish I could make it... I think i have some soccer issues holding me back here! what the heck, maybe I'll drive over to Knotts to see what's cooking there Saturday afternoon, after our games!

Theron, What is the plan for a drawing and prizes for the Paso show, I have seen nothing posted, I would like to donate something to the cause, how about posting something so we know what to expect.....
I can't help but notice the "other coast" has a "chairman" for their event, do we have a "chairman" or have you assumed that role.....

Looks like a group from up in north country (RS-60 Mark Patty, myself, Angela Lane, Rick Jiloty, and anyone else who wishes to join our caravan (which will pass through San Jose, thence to Gilroy, thence over to the coast and on down the PCH). We plan to leave Santa Rosa as early as possible on Friday April 21. So far, three 550s and Mark's RS. Let me know if you wanna be part of this bevy of people-magnets.

I am leaving the greater L.A. area heading North along the Coast thru Malibu popping up on the 101 in Ventura and then 101 to Paso
on Friday morning 9:30ish....Anyone interested in Joining me?

There will be (3) cars from Orange Co. area in one group. We are undecided if we're pulling out before traffic 5:30ish or after traffic 9:00ish. Will keep you posted. We all will be originating from Huntington Beach area on PCH. If anyone else in this vicinity let us know and we'll try to group together.

Oops, I'm bad about skimming posts, when I am pressed for time.

I haven't decided. Vintage Speedsters is donating some items. Others are bringing items up. Not sure how to handle it. I really want this show to be little or no cost to those attending. So I am shying away from the raffle thing. Plus, in years past a raffle has been hard to manage. Perhaps the items offered can be set aside as presents for accomplishments. Most miles driven to attend, longest years owned, etc.

For those of you heading North on the 101 to the Paso Robles event you might consider regrouping at the La Conchita turnoff. It's North of Mussle Shoals and South of Carpenteria. There is only one turnoff from the 101 here, and there is a convenience store gas station and bathroom within a hundred feet of the turnoff- nobody should have a problem finding anybody else. Are you guys exchanging cell phone numbers? Is anybody bringing walkie talkies?

Theron, Every show I have ever been to has a raffle, nobody is obligated to buy tickets if they so choose....It makes us gather and if you remember last year it was actually fun.....
I am bringing 2 items for a raffle...........If they are used for other purposes, fine........

Honeymoon Special is a 1963B T6 Coupe that is in the process of becoming a mild outlaw. She's been in the family since new but will be unable to make the meet.
However my son Nick will be there with his Strosek 911 which is just out of the paint booth at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. He's done all of the work.
We live in Oceano and are both interested in replica speedsters and RSK's.

Wee change of plans at the Lane residence... We'll be attending but NOT with the spitter. I'll take the mazda wagon down. Still meet/join up with everyone and if anyone needs luggage space or your passenge has had ENOUGH of your driving, they are welcome to join me in the wagon. Looks like Steve will probably fly down as his work schedule went from no work to work yer buns off over the last week...

No problems, just a delay in motor shipping and the ignition system is MIA. We do not want to hurry through the install. Both of us want this to be perfect.

Or at least those going to Paso Robles! How 'bout a "Silent Auction".
Donated items (preferably SOC or Porsche related) can be displayed on a table with cards attached for "buyers" to write their bid for each respective item.

At the end of a pre-determined time-frame (or time of the day), the bids will be closed and the "buyer" with the latest/highest bid for each respective "auction item" gets that item for the bid/price listed. Since these would be donated items, the proceeds from the bidding process would be used to fund the operation of the SOC website. This would satisfy several goals (1) the competetive process of out-bidding someone just for the sake of winning (2) money for the SOC website (3) or portion of the proceeds go as a cash prize to the winner of a drawing from a pool of everyone who posted a "bid".

Hopefully, that winner would buy a 'round' at the BBG joint!!

I'm right next to 101 in San Jose. I have friend who owns a coffee shop that's easy to get to from the freeway. It would be a perfect place to meet up with angela and others.

Theron and San Jose-ites: Mark, Angela ( driving her Mazda, due to engine in Spyder not yet finished), Rick Jiloty and I will be coming through San Jose on Friday the 21st, then to Gilroy and probably over to the coast, then down Hwy 1. If you or anyone else in the SJ area want to join us, let me know, and I will cc the others. We plan to leave Santa Rosa before 8:30 AM. We have not calculated exactly when we will arrive in the San Jose area (I would estimate 2 1/4 hours), but if a meeting place can be suggested that is easy to get to from the 101 freeway can be arranged, let me know.

Theron and Troy: Since the coffee shop right off the freeway was mentioned, can you send me the address? I will pop it into Mapquest, then we can zero in on the location and plan to meet you there around 10:30, or maybe a bit later, depending on commute traffic. I will keep an eye out for an email reply, but time is closing in on us, so can you reply ASAP? We have not yet decided which route to take to San Jose....Mark likes the east bay freeway; my vote was for the 280. Please advise. My phone is 707-833-2585.

Theron knows the name and address. This will be a great place for ALL to meet. What a great caravan. I also think that 101 to 152 then to the coast is a great route.

From there I can lead us back to the freeway pretty easily. It is 3 miles off the freeway (6 mins) according to yahoo and south of the 280, 101 interchange so your can come down either route.

Theron/Troy: Aware of your vast knowledge of the 101 freeway that crosses over the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge, then on down the east side of the bay vs. coming down 280, which is the shorter/faster route? I.e., which one would you choose?

Traffic should be OK once you get past SF. As far as quickest east bay NO, 101 ?? but 280 is most likely the best for traffic and view.

Theron and Troy: Mark and I decided to travel down on Hwy 280. We have the address, will use Mapquest (I don't have a GPS; do not know if Mark does) to find the restaurant. I doubt that we can get there before 10:30 AM. Depends on the traffic, weather, accidents, etc. If you can give us a cell number (ping me at barryneils@yahoo.com) we can call you when we leave and maybe let you know when we leave SF. Mark and I will have co-pilots. Angela will have the Mazda. Rick Jiloty is supposed to join us....not sure if he will meet us at the restaurant or what. I will contact him, give him the address and see where he wants to join up.

It is about 180 miles from my home in Pleasanton to Paso which makes it maybe 140 or so from south san jose. I was hoping to get to Paso around noon - one so meeting up with you in south san jose at around 10:30 will work.

Lets hear from others passing trough or leaving the Bay Area. Per the registry there are around 40 of us within 60 miles of here. I would guess a few will be attending.
