For those leaving with us from the San Francisco Bay Area, my wife said the weather will cooperate next week. (Yesssss!) My wife is ALWAYS right! It has rained almost every day for going on around 40 or more days. We are not in danger of floods, but the late Spring means that the car has been on the road only once. Snow country 356/Spyder owners: I feel your pain...Flash!...My wife just read the long-term weather report. On Friday, April 21st the Bay Area will hit 67 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Paso is to reach 68. Next week should be a GO! Hot Dawg!!
Vince or any of the other Southern guys/guys,
I'll be flying into San Luis Abispo around 11:30 Friday morning, are you heading up 101? If so, any idea what time you might hit that area? Anybody think of anything from Alaska that we might want for the giveaways. How about a couple pounds of smoked salmon? I promise not to bring any cold weather down with me!

Pat
Pat,
I don't think our group will hit Paso before 2-3 o'clock...
We have 3 cars so far for sure, but it could double real easy by this time next week.....
we will be passing San Luis Obispo along the 101, unless the group decides to turn off for lunch at Pismo Beach.....
There does not seem to be a reason to hurry to get to the hotel as far as i'm concerned, but I can't speak for the rest of the cars in my party......
If someone brings a Hibachi we can BBQ the Salmon in the park for lunch on Saturday.........

For all of you not going, these pic's show what you miss........

Vince,

Is our escape route, Vista Del Mar, Culver, Lincoln, 10 to 1? If so, there is a parking lot on Vista Del Mar between Grand and Imperial Hwy, on the ocean side in front of the Hyperion Plant, where we could gather.(what a run-on sentence) It has reasonably good access from 405/105 for others that wish to join up. We will avoid the 405 Airport traffic and Sepulveda tunnel, with easy access to Lincoln. Just a thought.

Thanks for sending your cell number. Do we need walkie-talkies or something like that? I have a set of the FRS variety. Looking forward to the drive.

Curt
Hey Vince / Curt!

What time should we meet you guys in the Hyperion parking lot on Vista Del Mar? We'll be navigating the 405 to 105 to get there. What would be the best exit off the 105?

Vince, (no walkie-talkies) you mean you don't want to re-live those radio comm days from Nam. Flashback>> "Vince (Code-name Sgt. Rock) this is Jim (Code-name the Guam-Bomb), the Speedster has landed. WTF, Over!" - "Guam-Bomb this is Sgt. Rock, where the F*** are you, Over!".
"No, where the F*** are YOU, Over!". Repeat several times for military communication efficiency. lol! (I know we would have been thrown in Leavenworth for sure!).

Looking forward to the drive up!

My Handle was "Smoker 2-3" and I have some "HE" for ya...
That would be "High Explosive".....I guided 8 inch and 175 mm
rounds to their targets, anywhere from 5-20 miles away, while receiving incoming mortars and rockets, not to mention any other friendly fire in the area....it was not pretty......
But we needed to kill CHARLIE.....or so we were told....
I prefered cruising the boulevard picking up chicks.....
Jim,

The 105 ends just past the Sepulveda offramp, it turns into Imperial Hwy. Just stay on until it gets to the entrance of Dockweiler State Beach, turn left onto Vista Del Mar the Hyperion parking lot will be on the right about 1/2 miles, at the signal. See ya.

Curt

PS: if this is what I'm going to get, I'm leaving the walkie/talkies home... ; )
Hey Curt!

Don't mind us - we're just a couple of maroon vets. Walkie/talkies are always a good idea in a caravan (just in case one someone has car problems or has to take a heinous dump).

Vince!

What are the odds - in 67-68, my partner and I were supposed to be electronics specialists (Air Force radar/communications) but the TET offensive changed things a BIT! He was sent to Illinois to train in reciprocating engines (airplane mechanic) and I was trained as combat medic (I thought only the Navy/Marine guys did that!). Oh well, WTF!

After surviving all the shenanigans in SEA, I learned not to sweat the small stuff, and (you know the answer) - it's ALL small stuff!

How lucky are we to be driving these toys to a cool place to meet cool people?
Curt,
No need to apply. That is only for the Antique car show that is also going on. Everyone with a speedster/spyder is in under our group.

On a side note, a friend passing through the area sent me the picture below. It is a banner for the show which the town setup a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone checking the local forecast? At last check, Yahoo Weather has rain for all 3 days. Don't know about the rest of you guys, but FEIN356 doesn't keep it out well enough to protect my $$$ interior (and I had a very long, wet weekend in Sacramento to prove it).

I'll keep watchin' but may beg off if it still looks like rain by Tuesday night.

Roger Stanley and Vince Manto, You might want to consider grouping together just northwest of the traffic signal at Topanga Canyon and PCH rather than at Sunset and PCH. Sunset and PCH is a very busy inersection with very limited free off street parking (Gladstone's Restaurant and beach parking areas at this point are quite expensive and surfers use all the available on-street parking).

Topanga Canyon Blvd. is a much better route, than Sunset, for those coming from San Gabrial Valley or San Fernando Valley (134 to 101). There is a Topanga Canyon offramp (take the Topanga south offramp) from the 101 in Woodland Hills - the canyon road has some nice twisties.

Just northwest of the point where Topanga Canyon intersects with PCH on the North side of PCH there is a fish restaurant called The Reel Inn, next to it there is an old cottage style motel, and next to that is a sushi restaurant. These businesses all share a big parking lot which should be fairly empty at the time you are travelling northerly. And the traffic light at Topanga and PCH should give you the opportunity to get back on PCH as a group after assembling. Just something to consider.
You can't bug out at this late date, Mike. I have waited a long time to check out your rear license plate and to listen to the stories you told last year about the theft of the plate and the (especially) good tale about the CHP stop you posted. Besides, no REAL Porsche driver would fink out just because of a little rain. The others expect you to be there with top DOWN and license plate freshly waxed.
Karl, The answer is no, I will not be going to Paso Robles this year.

I have committed to go to the Knott's Berry Farm show. I've gone to the last six-or-seven Knott's shows and I really like them for all the valuable information you get from builders and owners, etc. And Knott's is also where I had the good fortune of discovering the Speedsterowner's Club, which has been such a valuable source of information and controversey for me. Maybe if there's no conflict between the two events next year, I'll go to wherever the SOC decides to have its Spring meet in 2007.

P.S. I failed to mention it above but Topanga Canyon intersects PCH about 3/4 of a mile northwest of where Sunset intersects PCH. [mapquest The Reel INN 18661 Pacific Coast Highway Malibu,CA 90265]THE BALLBAGGER
Bill, I will miss your presents at Paso, You have a beautiful car
what more information could you possibly need.....We could start a whole new controversy at Paso....Who Know's perhaps someone would take a picture of your car with a really good camera.......
And you'd make the "07" calendar......It could happen..........
Just busting your balls bud.............
Looks like the weather is getting better, We're looking at 20% for rain on Saturday and Sunday. I did read that we have a 100% of drinking wine though.......

Hello, Its
Kirk & Mary from Vintage. We have to wait for 2-cars to come up from Oceanside area that are hooking with us in Huntington Harbor area around 9:00ish Friday a.m. Would like to hook up with the rest of you near the airport area and ride the coast up.. So many threads can't figure out the time you folks all plan on meeting there or exact location. Someone drop a line if you could but please drop it to Mary
LTLTUB1@AOL.COM We may also be hooking up w/Jennifer and her Dad (2-more cars which give us 6-total).
Fill me in a bit here please perhaps we can try to change times but we're trying to pull out of here right after traffic we are near the 405 @ Seal Beach Blvd.
Thanks
Kirk,
I sent an email to Mary, I suggest we hook-up at the PCH/Topanga location, I will have at least 3-4 cars. I am picking one up in El Segundo, and at least one more at PCH/Topanga, perhaps more coming in from the Valley. May I suggest if your coming down the 405 heading North to take the 10 West, which ends in Santa Monica and puts you right on PCH, this should keep all your cars together, once your on PCH its only about 6 miles to Topanga Canyon Blvd where we will be waiting for you.....the rest of the drive is great and easy to keep all the cars together.....

Hey Vince,
Its Jennifer in RB. Mary is talking about us. It would probably be just 4 cars coming from OC. We(2cars) (myself, hubby and the folks) will be meeting Mary & Kirk and their gang along PCH, and hopefully your group. Hopefully we can get this all worked out! Looking forward to it. By the way are you in North RB or South. We are at Prospect and Emerald.

Jennifer
