For those of us meeting in San Jose, I just received the following from a friend that lives in Paso Robles. Sounds like Cambria might be a good place to rest for a minute or so.

HIGHWAY 1 ??? What a ball buster drive!! I guess that's what guys in car clubs do however---they go where no one else will be!! Yes, at Salinas you go over to the coast on 68 and then head south past Monterey and Carmel and just keep going. A couple hours later and you will get to Hearst Castle area and then 11 miles after that and you come to Cambria which is a wonderful little beach town except you won't see it unless you get off the freeway and go through Cambria. That detour would add only about 1/2 mile to your overall voyage. You can get off at the north end of town, go through the town and get back on Highway 1 at the south end of town. If you want to stop for lunch, get off at the north end of Cambria (Moonstone Beach) and make an immediate right turn which takes you along the ocean front and a bunch of nice small hotels. You could have lunch (after your windy, twisty gut-wrenching drive) along the ocean. Anyway, when you are back on 1, go 4 more miles south on 1 and you'll come to the 46 west turn off to Paso. From there it is about 23 miles over the mountains into the south end of Paso. As you get close to Paso, you will go past about 20 wineries. If you drink wine, plan to stop at least at Castoro--it'll be on the right side and very clearly marked about 2 miles before Paso. Then, the easiest thing to do (for you as a visitor) is to stay on 46 and get on 101 NORTH and get off at the Spring Street exit (the first one) and then travel right through the center of town to the hotel which is at the north end of town. This way you go under the sign about you guys and also past the Park which is where I presume your event will be. Spring St exit off 101 is basically 1st streeet and they are numbered up to 36 from there.
Roger, not sure of anything in the topanga canyon but If you are going south on the 405 and plan on going north on the 101 to topanga, that is a great twisty drive, but if your running late a much faster way would be, keep going on the 405 south to the 10 west, it drops you out on PCH in Santa Monica just a few miles from our meeting spot at Topanga Canyon Blvd and PCH, not nearly as cool, but much faster than the mountain route.....
Vince/Jim/others,

Thought I ought to chime in here, lunch in Pismo sounds good, I would also offer up Jocko's in Nipomo, good Santa Maria style BBQ for carnivores, they must have something for the veggies. Nice open lot for plenty of cars. Just an option. Sounds like everything is coming together. Weather is starting to co-operate too. Jo Ann and I are looking forward to meeting everyone. I'll be at the lot on Vista Del Mar around 9:15-9:30.

Curt
Ok, looks like I'm in! I'm right off the 101 at Las Virgenes Road/Malibu Cyn (Calabasas), and about 15 minutes from Pepperdine and PCH (Malibu).

Who will be meeting up at Topanga Cyn @ PCH and when? And will anyone be caravaning straight up the 101 N. (considering everyone will have to swing over from PCH to the 101 at Oxnard anyway)?

Give me a shout Thursday PM/Friday AM.

Mike, I plan on arriving at the Topanga location around 10:30ish with my group, we will then wait for Kirk and his group, once we are all gathered, we will head north on PCH (hiway 1) till it ends in Oxnard, once it ends we head to the 101. I forget the name of the street, its either White or Rose, but its easy to spot and it leads right into the 101, then its clear sailing to whichever we chose for a lunch destination, I figure Pismo would be best.....but we can take a vote.
Vince, et. al.

After you leave the Topanga meet-up, stay on Highway #1 (which in Oxnard is also known as South Oxnard Blvd). A little way after the Rose Street intersection South Oxnard Blvd is intersected by North Oxnard Blvd. head north on North Oxnard Blvd and it intersects the 101 Freeway.

It may be advisable to set-up a refueling stop in the north Santa Barbara - Isla Vista area (between Isla Vista and Buelton fuel is scarce). Then a re-group (and comfort stop) at the first gas station just east of the first off-ramp in Buelton might keep things together - at the offramp head toward Solvang.

There are some great barbeque places in Santa Maria / Pismo area, but for a light lunch (and a bathroom break) you may want to just hit clam chowder in Pismo at any of the motels or diners overlooking the beach. (They are all the best clam chowder you've ever had).

On the way back, you might want to consider these suggestions.

All from the bay area and north. If we meet at Cool Beans per Therons suggestion we can then go south on 101 to 156 west to hwy 1 just north of monterey. South to Cambria then 46 west to Paso Robles. This should be one really great ride. Looking forward to seeing Agela and the rest of you Friday morning. I'll most likely be there around 9:30 with a book and some coffee.

Yippee

Hey Theron, and group!

Have a safe trip on southbound Hwy 1 (the best direction to drive this road - for the view).

Would it be possible to collect video clips from various SOC travelers to Paso Robles and consolidate them on a video/DVD that interested members could buy (and enjoy over and over)?

It would be awesome to watch a caravan of speedsters cruising Hwy 1 and other roads of interest as part of a Paso Robles Meet DVD. I would definitely buy such a video.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!
Sharon and I will be arriving in Paso Robles early Friday afternoon (flying in) and are looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing the cars. What are the plans for gathering together on Friday evening? Where? How do we find you? We are easy to spot ... I have a grey beard and she is the good looking one! Also, we have 356 SO pins! See you soon.
Dusty,
Michael has graciously opened his house to anyone who want to go, and if you read the thread, he has also recommended a dinner house near the park.
I am planning on going to Big Bubba's Bad Ass BBQ which is within stumbling distance to the hotel that we are all staying at, assuming you are staying at the Adalaide with the rest of us....
It has family entertainment including a bucking Bull, some of us that are more refined, may find this not to their liking, I'm not that refined myself.....
