Just roared by exit 52 on I-81 (should be familiar to a few of you) on one of our pilgrimages back and forth this year. Skipped getting fuel there and waited until north of Harrisburg for a single shot all the way home to Massachusetts.

Spent 8 hours in a constant downpour on Wednesday. NOTHING leaked in at the header or at the side windows(yay!) but the floors are damp on both sides in the front, while behind the seats is relatively dry. I think i need to address what comes in at the rear corners of the windshield, just like SAS and others. Battery well was wet, too. (I really need to use the same hood weatherstrip as Dr. Clock!)

Remember, Pearl was on a trailer so it's not the same as when the wheels are turning, but at times Wednesday we were doing about 40 mph because the rain was so heavy you really couldn't go any faster. Most of the rest of the time we were in cruise mode set at 70mph. I'll get her out in the sun tomorrow to dry her out (after she gets a good bath). Not all that bad for the intensity of the rain. "Beeped" at Chambersburg and Harrisburg on the way by, but the pups had us up and on the road at 6am so it was pretty early.

Route taken was I-95N to I-26n to I-77n to I-81n to I-84e

The only construction slow-downs were on I-84E between Wilkes-Barre, PA East to Newburgh, NY. Slow, at times, but always moving.

Yup, you folks coming up from the Southeast (Lane! That means YOU!) should see no construction delays anywhere on those routes mentioned. Smooth sailing all the way.

I wish I84 wasn't quite so busy, but at least it's not as bad as I78 coming out of Jersey used to be. What was that......3 HOURS of construction over 75% of it's length for YEARS?!?!?

Further inspection of Pearl once I got all of the "stuff" out of her this morning (I tend to use her as 'expansion' space if the truck gets too full) showed that most of the leaks must be on the passenger side because the carpet in the footwell was soaked (although no water sloshing around!) and the accessory bag behind the passenger seat was wet. The driver's carpeting was damp, but that's all. Looks like I upgrade to better weatherstripping all around!

So she's parked with the sun where she needs it and should be fine by mid-afternoon. We went through about 5 hours of torrential downpours so I'm not upset with the extent of water on board. It was really nasty out there at times. Had to slow to 50 or below half a dozen times for lack of visibility.

So then we finally get to Martinsburg, WV for the overnight and, after unloading our overnight bags and getting the dogs settled, tired through and through (I did all the driving), I head out for some Chinese take-out food. The place is in a small strip-mall with tight parking and even tighter room to maneuver the truck and trailer. All of a sudden I see a beat-up pickup with two West Virginia Rednecks driving, chasing me around the parking lot in the rain, trying to see the car. Both of them, I swear, had less than 5 teeth each, ratty caps, Camo shirts and wadded up Skoll in their lips, and the truck probably didn't have mufflers (didn't sound like it, anyway). I park across 5 normal slots (the only place I could fit with the trailer) and get out. They come tearing up. "HEY! Is that a REAL Porsh?"

'Yup', I say.........It's a real car...' wondering if they would catch the word play.

"Thar, ya see Bobby? I TOLL ya it was f...in' real! Lookit them wheels! They's got that Porsh thing on'em, just like the hood!"

I trudge off in the rain towards the 'Peking Gardens' to pick up dinner while they're still there pointing at the car and shouting at each other.

Life on the road. I don't see how Dr. Clock does it, much less Jack Kerouac. all I ever get are the Rednecks - not much to look at, either.....

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if you guys moved your event to later in the year perhaps "rain" wouldn't be the main topic of conversation every year....Here on the "Best Coast, I mean West coast" we moved ours, but of course the rain has followed us even into the summer.....I realize you would lose all the cobra's etc, but then you could have it wherever you like....
Well, Norma thought it was romantic but had no idea Bruce was putting pills in her drinks.......good one Bruce, we'll never tell! And on Mother's Day, you da man!

Yeah Vince, Carlisle is kinda married to the import/Kitcar weekend. They won't move it, they have something going on every weekend I think. Don't worry, if it rains, we just drink more! Late September here is the best, warm, dry and fall colors, can't be beat.

But the weather has been pretty good the past few years, except when Jim wore Crocs and got thrown out of Harley Davidson....but that's another story!
