I'm in the process of purchasing a set of new 5 wide wheels (converting from my current 4 lug wheels) for my 2000 Vintage Speedster, and am going for the outlaw or Carrera look with drumskinz between the brake rotors and/or drums (so no hubcaps).

I have noticed that there are two variations of 5 wide (15x5-1/2) wheels out there in the marketplace.  A first variation that does not include any other openings than those for the wheel studs or wheel lugs, and those that do have an additional/smaller hole near each of the stud or wheel lug holes or openings.

Looking on the internet, through the Porsche 356A archives of wheel pictures, it seems like the wheels having the additional holes or openings are period correct.

Any thoughts, inputs, or insights would as always be greatly apprecation.

Thanks, Grant

Mr. GT: I believe original Porsche wide-5 wheels were mfr'd by Lemmerz and/or KPZ. Don't know if either mfr'd for VW.

I believe Mangel also mfr'd wheels for VW. I admit to margin-of-error here, requiring further research.

Have heard/read of a recent Chinese wide-5 clone and recall negative feedback (terrible mat'ls engineering)...

I had some saved links with pix...given some time I can possible retrieve/post them.

ADD:These are also nice wheels   http://www.thesamba.com/vw/cla...etail.php?id=1393678 (verify the date of sale-adv'g other Porsche wheels)

There are several interference issues with drumskins, no matter who you buy them from. Same interference issues with the brake calipers (except Wilwood) and also some with wheels (even my own). It is simply a matter of a design based on tight tolerances and several parts manufactured with looser tolerances. It's not a big deal though, just know that if your skins won't slip in past the welds in your wheels, they need trimmed. Likewise if they contact the calipers, they need trimmed. Period. Trimmed properly you cannot tell at all once the wheel is on the car.
