Only took 9 months to receive a personalized plate for my IM.

Nice!
Why 9 months ? MY "MODL 550", yellow-on-black like yours, only took 3 weeks. Nine months ! That's weird ! Good ole DMV ! Always full of surprises. Your plate is very cool though. Easy to remember when checking in to a motel too............Bruce
When I checked on it awhile back was told that is the delay these days. It was much faster when I got a plate in New Mexico. Was surprised this plate was available for my 73 911E that I have had since new.

@ProfHollan you surely scored with both those plates....as did i !!....it's for sure a great selling point for when that time comes
I may have forgotten (I do that a lot), but was your car once owned by Dale Bates? Does it have a 4-cyl inline Audi engine?
I remember Dales car from the Bugoramas here in Sacto..it had a Audi engine and the interior was a red called "campbells tomato soup" or some such thing.
Yes, it was formerly Dale's car. It has an Audi 1.8t engine.
@barncobob the red leather interior is named "absolute tomato". According to Henry, it was selected by the woman who originally ordered the car but then did not take delivery. I think Dale then bought it. There may have been two subsequent owners before Henry pointed me to it at Cloud 9 Classics in Atlanta and I purchased from @RoyP.

Lucky You ProHollan !! I'm still waiting for my California plate and it's been 9 months. I called DMV and they said they were backlogged, but mine should be arriving soon. We will see .............
I've always been curious about "vanity" plates that tell you what you can plainly see already (I already know its a Porsche) , and may even be emblazoned on the car by the mfr. Rather, how about something clever about the driver/owner?? There are many possibilities. We seem to run through these every now and then.

My order went in the middle of June last year. When I checked a month ago at AAA, they said May orders were just arriving, and I should get mine soon. That turned out to be accurate.

Love it. I love double entendre vanity plates. (Intermeccanica 356 + I’m a 356) I did the same with my 968: MY1 CAB (Model year 1 (92) 968 + My one 968.
i wasn’t as creative with my Spyder:

I'm generally not a red-car fan, but your car is sooooo sweet and has so many really excellent touches and features that it's one of my favorite replicas. The fact that you have a really cool, personalized, and color-coordinated plate seems 100% appropriate.
I always welcome your thoughts, observations, and dogged persistence in solving a problem (like your recent air-filter conundrum).
Are you coming to the mountains to play this fall?
@Stan Galat, thanks for your kind comments.
My replica car has a replica plate made by a place in Florida. It just happened that Michigan had that color in 1957. My real plate also says 3FIFTY6 and I keep it under the floor mat.
I had to spend more than $160 on billet air cleaners just to get the bases for my turbo hats. The unused tops are very nice and I may try to sell them.
Regarding coming to the mountains in the fall I am undecided. It is a long way to drive just to get there. Last time I fell behind guys like you and Danny and found myself alone with no GPS needing to find my way back to the hotel.

Holiday Inn Express, 165 Malin Dr, Wytheville, VA. Phone is (276) 335-2222. We’ve got a group rate for Wed. Sept. 25 - Sunday Sept. 29.
Well, for me Wytheville is about the same distance as Carlisle. It is closer to me than previous locations.

That sounds like a hoot to cruise the Virginia back roads. It's only 40 hours drive and 2,650 miles for me. I'll be thinking about it while on vacation, having a cold one with Pickett.
Aloha, Dave
I'll be glad to cogitate on it with you, Dave!

I've read about your drives, Dave. That would be a weekend cruise for you.
Also, we don't really "cruise" per se. it's a bit more brisk than that.

Yes Stan, I have some miles under my belt. But I was a younger man at 58 and 60 years old. I'm still good for 5 to 6 hundred a day now at 74. It would be a fun road trip in the speedster and a real shake down for the car. There is a possibility I might head your way in Sept. My keen is progressing well and health is generally pretty good. We will see........... I'll keep you posted. BTW I like brisk

I am still waiting for my official black plate ordered in November to arrive, but I have the yellow “show” plate already. Until the black one arrives, the yellow stays in the envelope. Speedster is “Rolf”…

I have R 52 MG on Bridget. Had a lot of ideas for a Spyder plate such as
0CAMON
AYE*SPY
P*NOT
550*BUG
RENN*VW
ONE*CAM
PRE*10
UNREAL
and 4*CAM, which would require a custom license plate frame reading "If They Can't Take A Joke."
Took me a couple of seconds to get the last one, butt now it's my favorite

In late September, we'll be doing the Back of The Dragon in VA/WV area. You should come, Dave.
EDIT: I didn't read all the stuff above before I commented. You'll have a blast if you join us.

You should definitely come, with your Speedster!

500-600 in the Speedster?! I drove up from Hawaiian Gardens, and it was a haul. Very fun but 300+ was a lot for a day. Sorry I missed you at the breakfast…
