500-600 in the Speedster?!  I drove up from Hawaiian Gardens, and it was a haul.  Very fun but 300+ was a lot for a day.  Sorry I missed you at the breakfast…

Hey Randy, Yes I've been doing long drives for over 40 years. The ones Stan was referring to were the charity drives I did for Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. I did two drives, the first was 49 states in 9 days in 2009. The second drive was 49 states in 7 days in 2011. Both were accomplished in a 1932 Ford Roadster. I had no breakdowns and raised over 200K for the charity. My seat time was 18 to 20 hours or 1000 to 1200 miles a day. Google (Dave Schaub 49in9) or Dave Schaub 49in7. You can read about the drive.

Sorry I missed you a the breakfast. I sent you a PM a few days before, but you must have been working on your speedster.

My ‘real plate’ is a personalized CA plate. The plate information came from the car my dad had when I was a kid, a car that started my passion for automobiles: a 1967 Shelby GT350, in lime gold. It was this car that I learned to drive stick. He also used to let me take my friends out in it on Fridays and Saturdays. In his mind, cars are meant to be driven and not locked away.
With all that said, I rarely have that plate on the car. I use a 1957 CA plate the seller gave me when I purchased the car: HFR 300

While the shot below doesn’t include my plate, I thought I’d share as I just received it. The photo was taken while passing under the Marin Civic Center by Frank Lloyd Wright last weekend. I thought the architecture really compliments the car.

IMG_3072IMG_3021Paid my taxes, registered the car as a special construction vehicle and got my tags. Car is a 2000 so in 2025 it will be considered an antique vehicle. So I’ll trade in these plates for antique plates and I won’t have to pay those horrible Virginia personal property taxes. Now I just need the car. Still waiting for Pat Downs to finish my 2650 Type 4.
