Thanx Alan, I'll check that out. It was the weirdest sounding thing I ever heard. Ignition came to mind first when it started doing it. I had just set the valves and advanced the timing just a tad and it was running fine. It even did away with some of the popping on deceleration. I set the timing to 30' from 27 but I think I'm going to go back the other way. Just wanted to ping a bit and I shouldn't have that on 93 octane. I just can't seem to be able to run the advance others do.(?) I'm pondering going with the Pertronix2 set up anyway. Wouldn't you know they introduced it right after I bought what I have now.

Gordon:I can do wonders with my BFH. My favorite tool! Very effective.

I had a similar problem. The engine would buck a bit like it was running out of gas and a couple of times it died on the freeway. I tried every thing thinking it was fuel related, changed the filters, changed the fuel pump, measured the metering rod, bought new manifold gaskets....I was getting ready to change back to points to test the Petronix and then I noticed that the insulation on wire going to the sensor was very close to the distributor shaft and had worn through. I was intermittently grounding out. I had pulled on the wire while wiping the engine off for a show and pulled it up against the distributor shaft.
