Cool info on the show/trophy, etc. Great fun. Be sure to tell JPS.

Back to the technical stuff: My fuel pump from JPS failed and had to be replaced. Also the same unit on the Green Coupe failed and was replaced. (Much here on the forum about that) It was leaking fuel and I believe pumping too high a pressure. Your gas smell could be coming from the fuel pump itself. Advice here would be to get a rotary pump that delivers just 3.5 psi, and so you would be sure that high fuel pressure was not the problem. Of note: the engine was not running well while the original pump was busy failing, and it is not clear that you are having running problems: coughing, backfires, poping out the exhaust, rich gas smell in the exhaust, and so forth. The failures mentioned (too much pump pressure, sticking float valve, etc.) would have to be accompanied by noticeable performance/running problems, seems to me. Listen to Pip, he tells it like it is. I found that R&R and a good cleaning of the idle mixture jets (at the top of the Weber IDFs) really makes a difference.

Oil leak: where do you notice the oil? I also had a crack in the engine block where the oil sending unit screws in. Had to be fixed w/ application of JB Weld (two part, high temp epoxy). It was the devil to diagnose and find. Also much posted here on that topic at the time.
I saw Peter's coupe yesterday, and I have to say it appears to be a very well done car. Good attention to detail, particularly the headliner and the window gaskets and other bits that we Speedie guys don't have. He may have suffered moments of doubt and anxiety along the way, but I think Peter's experience will be much as my dear mother explained the pain of childbirth to me; the joy of having such a magnificent car erases the memories of the delivery.
Peter, I hope you got home safely before the rain hit.
Greetings all,

With the summer up here winding down and only two outdoor, cruise-ins left to show the coupe, I have gathered some information and experiences with the car that I thought I might share with you.

All of the weekend cruise-ins I attend are of the classic, custom car verity and not Porsche or Volkswagen sponsored events where many original cars might be seen.

The only exception I have experienced to the classic and custom car cruise-ins I attend was last Sunday in Lake Oswego, Oregon where Rich Ebers
Wait until Obama wins in November, he has a plan to provide all Replica owners or wannabe owners, who have suffered long and hard as second class 356 citizens, with a fully sorted, warranted, JPS car. He is also pro choice, so you get a coupe OR Speedster! You just have to provide evidence of owning a VW beetle in your misspent youth and having a Performance Products catalog from the 80's stashed in your office. This is his promise to middle aged, white males. It is his version of the old slogan " A chicken in every pot!" updated to " A Porsche 356 replica and some " prescription" pot!"
Peter,

This is sad news at the very least. I thought you had a winner here, and were dedicated to the cause. The "economy" is giving everyone fits, it would seem, and none more so than Coupe owners. This is more than a little distressing, I must say. Too many of these cars end up for sale in a year or less, and I wonder why that is. I think I do not really understand what is going on here. Perhaps %-wise, it is no different that the Speedsters, but the Coupes JPS is making seem to have very high "attrition" rates.
