During a business trip across the pond last week I came across one of the PGO Speedsters ( http://www.pgo.fr/en/modeles/modeles-speedster.html ), and I have to say I was quite impressed with the styling, overall finish and layout. The shape is unmistakable Speedster, but with enough modern styling updates to the body and interior to come across as a more of a modern car based on retro-styling than an outright replica. Among the many interesting features of the car is the transverse, mid-mounted engine, which seems like a nice way to put a longish in-line 4 into a Speedster without having too much weight cantilevered off the tail. It should have great weight distribution. The suspension setup and custom tube frame also look first rate. I believe the engine is a Peugeot-sourced mill, which is also the source of the new Mini Cooper engine. I have a new Mini with the turbo Peugeot engine, and I can tell you it has been very reliable and is quite torquey. This little PGO would be a fun alternative to a Boxster or an Elise for someone looking for a modern car with a very unique stylistic flair and not concerned about absolute maximum speed. It

I will post up a gen-U-ine Porsche coupe upon which one might say the Hemera-oid may have gotten inspiration. This one goes WAY back to the very early days, and if I remember the story, was a way to enclose what was an open racer w/ lines not unlike our beloved Speedster, but before that design had settled and the true 356 line figured out. Anyway, the thing they came up with is little more than a canopy just stuck onto the racer's body. I have this pic at home and will get it. A very odd looking duck, if you ask me. And not unlike what was done here: just stick a hard top on the shell otherwise designed to be topless, and call the job done.
