No longer can drive a three pedal car so my speedster has to go.  This CMC car has been in the Oregon and Nevada high desert for most of its life so rust not an issue.

Most of the work was professionally done, eg  pan shortened, built 1915 engine, seats and guage installation.  I installed carpet kit and did a little TLC and then drove it till my back issues arose. Registered as a 1964 VW.

The basics

CMC wide body on 5 lug 15 x eight inch wheels wrapped with  50 X 225 tires

VDO electronic guages

Short shift

New Kennedy stage one clutch, pressure plate throwout bearing & turned flywheel.

The extras

$600 Dellorto carbs  rebuilt by NHRA record holder in small displacement class

$250 Wood steering wheel

$850 A-1 custom built stainless exhaust

$500 New rotors, calipers and pads in front

$400 Adjustable spring plates

New tonneau cover

Brand new top, never installed (rarely rains here!)

Coco mats

Been driving while working on this car for two years. I am motivated to sell as I have ordered a two pedal car.

SOLD.

Hope the C7 that is being delivered in the next few weeks will not make me miss my CMC.

C7 has same auto/manual shifter as BMW and Porsche.

The back story.  Was at Hot August nights, the largest car show west of Missy---250k attendees and thousands of rods including one Speedster clone.  Saw what looked like a fancy Eyetalian vehicle in hotel lobby.  Turns out that little beauty was a Vette.  Ordered with Z51 package.  Lighter than a carrera with over 400hp.  I can't wait.

I know you will all be shocked but I bought the automatic based on the salesman telling me that the paddle shift auto had rev matching.  WHich turned out not to be accurate.  Now that the car is set to go on a transport I decide to look at some of the reviews.   THE 2014 CORVETTE AUTOMATIC HAS PADDLE SHIFTERS BUT THERE IS NO REV MATCHING.  That feature will come on line in the 2015.  Luckily they had a 7 speed stick in stock.  Natch I had to pay another $4K which I was not happy about but serves me right to not do my homework.  (Of course I am getting a car with far more options that I could care less about but they will help resale.    I am going to post about the sale of the speedster in a different post.

I agree rev match is overkill for a manual however if one plans on driving in a spirited manner, rev match in an automatic with  paddle shifters is a must have.  (BMW, Benz and Porsche all have it)  Otherwise you might as well just  have a column shifter and pull it down and of course there is no rev  match so the automatic will not last real long.  My 7 speed does have rev match if you want to use it.  To get the 29 EST MPG it also has "economy mode" that cuts half the cylinders  if you are just cruising on the interstate.  Supposedly this actually works unlike the GM cars of the 80s.

Paddle shifters…only reason I wanted them is cause of back issues.  WHen I move my legs I get nice hot knife pains in my lower back.  If I could cut those events in half it was worth it.  But not at the expense of performance driving.  I live on a windy road and just going to the grocery store is an adventure.  I also sold a 993 Carrera so between what I got for those two cars I was able buy the Vette.  And why did I not buy another porsche? HA!  I get virtually the same performance 0-60mph in 3.8 secs 465 HP for about one half the price.  Of course I could have gotten a Cayman  but you can't go topless.  Not even sunroof.  Easy decision.  As to Speedsters.  In a race class I  took years ago the instructor said "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow".  SO speedsters have their charm but on a long trip I need a little more comfort.  And who's to say I won't be back in a speedster.  I absolutely loved my Intermecchanica, but wanted a 993 and could not afford both. Maybe one day I can have both.

I agree with the paddle shifters.

I was an old-skool 5-speed guy myself, but then when I finally tried a paddle-shift car through a good windy road, I realized the performance benefits of paddling - shifting later into the corner, not having to take your hands off the wheel, the shifting time saved - so much so that I actually retrofitted paddles onto my '01 740i.  Had to give up the heated wheel, but it was a welcome trade-off.

The 4 Summons to court I rec'd and having my plates pulled roadside during my first real 'road test' with the paddles is a story for another day, though....
