Vince - my next license plate will read 'PHATGUY'! Bwwaaaaaaa.....
Being rather anal when it comes to mechanics, I took Phattub to my greasemonkey mechanic, for a diagnosis. Good news all around...
need front brake pads, but other than that it is just preventive maintanance, so I am doing the usual valve/carb adjust, oil change, new rotor, dist. cap, and a few things that probably don't need to be done but, then again, you can never be to sure.....
So, I guess I'm ready to ride.....

Hey Vince, where do you take your car for a check up. John has been good servicing my car, but I am looking more toward the West LA, South Bay part of the LA LA land for future services

My mechanic is located at Artesia and Inglewood ave....Cars Automotive....3 brothers own the place, i used to go there when their father owned it in the 60's....they have boats and sand toys and are very knowledgeable when it comes to all cars in general....for me they are close, I can walk home from their shop...there are many VW pro's in the south bay
to choose from....my guys are not cheap, but when I start my speedster, I feel good about taking it anywhere I need to go, including Morro Bay in a 50 year old Ghia...thanks to them...
seems most on this site like tinkering, and figuring things out for themselves. I prefer to cruise....

I needed to take some pic's for the insurance company, so here are a few shots of phattub....perhaps one of you is responsible for it's creation....it is a fiberfab built in 1990 on a 72 VW pan...
I got it registered as a 72 VW of course.....

vince looks real nice
Vince,
Nice pics of the Phattub.
what is the fresh air pipe hooked into? It appears to be in the firewall above the engine instead of the usual connection into the doghouse and go down to the heater boxes.

That's a really nice looking car, Vince. Even the non-standard dash looks appropriate for it. Nice find!
Good looking Fat Boy, Vince.
What's up with the heater hoses connected to the firewall?

The two hoses go into the back seat area and actually have fans attached...it must have been a "Wrong Coast" car to need that serious heat coming in....I'll just leave it as is, it is all working, but I can't imagine needing that kind of heat on the "Right Coast".....
NICE, Vince! Looking forward to seeing that bad boy at one of our next cruises. We were tossing around the idea of an overnighter in Malibu and doing the canyon roads, maybe Mulholland Dr.?
You car totally looks like a Mulholland racer!
Peace - Out!

Hey Jim....Race this....

Keep that heater set-up!! You might need it fist thing in the misty morning whenever you two are up in Wino country or something.
I dunno....What's worse.....too much heat or no heat??

My wife likes the heat idea also, I guess it stays....
By the way, my wife actually cried when I sold MR356, she is a happy camper again.....she doesn't fully understand the Ghia thing, but she also wouldn't let me sell it either.
