Inspired by a spirited drive over Christmas vacation in a friend's 997 GT3 RS 3.8, I made a New Year's resolution to carve out more time to drive. Since I don't have much time to write, I thought I'd share a few of the pics captured during this past weekend's sojourns to Angeles Crest Highway, Mount Wilson, and Tuna Canyon in SoCal.
Drive #1:
Looking west from Haramokngna American Indian Cultural Center at the base of Mt. Wilson.
Elevation here is about 4,640 feet. Believe it or not, had I turned right and followed Angeles Crest Highway 19 miles northwest (and another 2,500 feet up), Nugget and I would have found ourselves at the Mt. Waterman ski lifts, which were operating that day. At my house, less than 40 miles away but only ~700 feet above sea level, it was 75^.
Cloud cover was thick over Los Angeles that morning. You'd never know it from up here.
A couple of good looking strangers on top of the world...
Drive #2:
This is the view from the first turn-off on Angeles Crest, within a few minutes of sunrise.
Looking out over the city at first light.
Morning has broken...
At the base of Mount Wilson, looking east over the hiking trails.
Drive #3:
This is about 1 hour after sunrise, at the top of Tuna Canyon, about 20 miles from home, looking out over Malibu.
Dog is my copilot.
Cruisin' and playin' the radio, with no particular place to go...
Thanks for looking. Can barely wait until next Saturday!
