I was wondering if anyone has photos of the underside of a Vintage Speedsters body before it gets mounted on the chassis. It could be in any state of production/assembly but I'd like to see what the under-belly looks like before it gets mounted.

I'm considering a modification but I want to make sure I can get it done BEFORE I cut a hole in the body from the top-side.

If a CMC or a Beck body is the same as the bodies Kirk uses then that'd be fine too.

If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

My wife is not fond of the woofer enclosure I made for the 10" sub that sits on the luggage shelf. I am considering cutting a hole in the back of the "seat" area to mount the sub-woofer. Before I cut anything I want to make sure I can glass in the bottom of the area between the "seat" and the alleged firewall.

My thought is to use a temporary material to close off the bottom of the area and then resin and glass from the hole I cut in the "seat" area. It won't have to look good it'll just need to be airtight. Or I'll see if it can be glassed from the bottom without too much difficulty.

I have no idea what the area looks like from underneath the car and I was hoping someone who has a VS has had their body off for one reason or another and has a photo. Otherwise I'll call Kirk and see if one of his guys would snap a photo and send it to me. Or I could wait for Troy to drive down there again and either I go with or have him take some photos for me.

Mine is already mounted. Do you watch a FULL body view?

Meade,

Looking for the underside of the fiberglass body only. Don't go taking your body off the chassis for me you have carbs to get tuned.

Well Brian it looks like you've failed me. If you had only predicted I'd be asking this question I'm sure you would have flipped that body upside down and took some pictures of her belly. Unless of course you did and just didn't post them.

Hmmm... Let me check and see if I have any pics. If not, I can take some for you when I get home. I've been working underneath sealing the body and pan.

Couldn't find anything I took that would help...

If you can give me the specific location under the body, I can see about getting a photo...

The area I'm looking for would be the gap between the back seat and the firewall. Kirk puts the oil cooler in that space. I would like to see how wide the gap is from passenger side to driver side and the depth between the firewall and the seat area.

Thanks Brian. That is way more open than I expected. I was thinking the two half would be almost mirror images of each other but they're nothing alike. It does look like there is a lot of space in there. I will print those photos off and show them to the stereo guy to see what they can do with the space.

Thanks again for going to the trouble of shooting those pics.

There is a LOT of room. My older brother and I use to make subs in high school when the whole "more bass is better" craze started. Made a few bucks doing it... Just in the quick time I was looking and taking photos, I could see a system easily fitting.

Glad I could help!

Robert - Look at putting a subwoofer up high in the back out of sight and 6x9's in all four corners - massive power amp in the frunk of course. A setup like that may shake some nuts and bolts loose so be careful!

Some have taken Tupperware products and used for moulds to make pods to mount speakers in.  6" speakers on either side would easy to do.  Maybe a plastic cake keeper would make a good mould to be glassed in to keep it water proof.  Looks like cavity is identical to CMC/FF with lot of room behind "rear seat back".  Another SOCer put his gas heater there in a custom metal enclosure.

a little-known trick for tool storage is cut a 9 x 11 opening under the back seat pad..drop in a 9 x 11 2.5" cake pan...flatten the edges..seal it in place adding a piece of carpet on the bottom so the tools don't rattle and sound deadening too ..easy clutch adjustment access too.

Alan that sounds like a great idea! Do you happen to have any photos of that?

Here's what I got going on right now Rusty:

I'm just looking to move the sub to get back some space on the luggage shelf.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I was taking the pictures... this would be a great spot for extra storage and access to the trans...
