Guys, here's a picture of my latest project. I've added (with the help of wheel maker extraordinaire, Mike Lempert) some mahogany trim to the tops of my doors. Unfortunately I can't successfully upload good quality pictures from my new iMac to the site. Even thugh the file is well under the 2.5MB limit for contributing members, it seems to be posted as a very low res picture. I can't find any included software on the Mac that allows me to create a lower res picture. The other pictures in my folder were uploaded from the old PC and I used Paint to shrink them. I love this iMac, but I'd really like to solve this problem without having to spend more money for Photoshop, or something like that. Help!!!

Lane - as a longtime Mac owner/user, I agree it's lame that iPhoto doesn't allow you to "resize" images, but it doesn't.

That means you need to go to a third party solution. If you are willing to spend a little money (about $90, I think), Photoshop Elements is the software to get. It allows you to do many things to your hi-res images (including resizing them and compressing them - good for internet use) but does not offer all the features of the full Photoshop program. It's kind of Photoshop "lite." It's easy to learn - and you can do many cool things with it once you start playing around with its features.

If you want something free - Google "free photo hosting" and you should come up with many alternatives. I like PhotoBucket.com where you can upload your pics, resize them, and generate the HTML code to post them here (or many other places like Ebay, etc.). It's easy to learn and pretty much hassle free. But, there are lots of other free photo hosting sites on the internet including Picasa, Shutterfly, KodakGallery, etc.

Hope that helps.

By the way, I think what happens to your hi-res (big) pictures when you upload them here is that the SOC's software program compresses them, which makes the images look pixelated. If you upload a 640 X 480 JPG, it doesn't get compressed, and it looks fine.
I had the same issue with iPhoto but found a work around. Select the photo you want in iPhoto. Go to the share drop down menu and select email. It gives you choice of actual size, medium or small resolution. I use medium, and it works well. Send the email to yourself and then save the attachment. A little clumsy, but it works. I completely agree that iPhoto should have a utility to resize the photos.
