VERY NICE!!!!
Wow!
Now that's yellow!
Beautiful car.
Yes, very nice! Do you know what's in the motor? Al
This is the information I got on the engine:
"Lyle and I got into the engine. As I mentioned it is a fairly basic 90.5 bore X 78mm stroker crankshaft 2.0 liter VW boxer engine with a "Cheater" camshaft. When we dialed everything in we had 2027 liters total. The trick is in how we went about building this engine. Every little thing or procedure, learned by building competitive drag racing engines, which enhanced the performance to the maximum was applied to this engine. This goes to explain the head jerking acceleration."
Now I just need to swap the front drums for disks to make sure it can slow down.

BRILLIANT!! Enjoy the ride!
I'm with you, get the discs ASAP. Congratulations.
X2 on the discs. Plus a Wolo Bad Boy air horn, a center rear stop light and a right side rear fender mirror you can see out of. ( If you haven't already installed these.)
That yellow is a great color and you will appreciate the extra safety. Good choice and beautiful car. Impressive.
Thanks all!
The car has th3 5-lug wheels and I am told drop spindles. Recommendations for a drum to disk conversion kit?
Yea those side mirrors are really bad!
X3 on the discs; a panic stop from 75 or 80mph will have you throwing out the anchor and trying to get your feet through the floor at about 40mph. It's a very scary experience.
Lyle Cherry is a very respected name in the VW world. I'm sure your motor is done right. How high does it rev before power starts to fall off? Al
ALB - I didnt push the revs on the way home as I think one of the carbs is out of adjustment. It wasnt running quite right, and is running rich. I agian going to get it into my local mechanic and get him to tune it before I push on it. Stay tuned....
you don't see many yellow speedsters around. that looks great!
the chrome really sets it off. Congratulations.
CB perf and Calif Perf has good prices on disk conversions. My very first Pcar was a yellow 911. If you count my current CMC project and 993 I have had 8 Pcars and my only regrets was selling them. I understand why Seinfeld and Leno have warehouses.
My track car is a Guards Red Porsche 911. My garage looks like a box of Skittles....
You said you had 2027cc's 90.5 bore with a 78 mm crank equals 2006 or 2007cc's depending on how far you carry pi 90.5 x 90.5 x 78 x 3.1416
pi dosent lasy long around hear. but my 2028 is a 78.8mm stroke&90.5 bore. the extra little stroke points add up. some cranks are 78.4, some 78.witch makes for a lot of engine sizes & combos to come up with.and importaint when building&setting compression ratio.you need to know what you have.my scat crank is 78.8 my dpr crank is 78.4, witch is about 10 cc different, and the 74 is around another 10 cc less. as for the pie, it got droped, now we have cobbler.
I agree with your math, but I was quoting what I got from a previous owner - the person that built the motor with Lyle Cherry. And to be accurate, it would be 2007 cc's not liters as he said.
As Mark pointed out, if the previous owner said it was a 2028cc engine then you probably have a 78.8 mm crank and not a 78 mm as you stated.
OK then.
The quotations note the EXACT wording I got from previous owner who built the engine. I have not had the opportunity to pull the motor apart yet and spec everything out, and honestly it is the last of my concerns.
Whether the crankshaft is a 78, 78.4, or 78.8 doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. A 2 liter is big enough to make decent power in the part of the powerband the motor will spend most of it's life; at lower and mid rpm's running around on the street.
I asked earlier about where the motor seems to peak, because that will give a rough idea of what kind of cam is in it. Eg- if the thing revs to 5500 or 6,000 rpm and then falls flat, then you know it's a little more forgiving than a motor that goes to 6500 (or more) with power. Al
Al, agreed. It was noted that the motor has a cheater crankshaft. Not sure exactly what that means. I noticed a leak in the drivers side Weber carb, so I am going to have that rebuilt before I lean on it.
