This was Porsche day. However, many areas of the Los Angeles basin got rain or drizzle thru the previous night and caused a lot of no-shows. There were lots of interesting cars to look at but the one I really focused on was this green Speedster belonging to one of our own. SLIKKNICKK.  I don't think he posts on here much but he does follow it.  JonT was there with his beautiful silver Speedster as well so we all got to meet for the first, time.  It's always a pleasure to meet people whom I have only talked to on this forum. Both Nick and Jon are interesting to talk to !

Jon has now came up with a really nice plan on how he will mount his front license plate with three magnets if you don't use a front bumper.  I'm sure he will post photos of how he does it later.

Here's a couple photos of Nick's car.  (Jon's is behind it).   I just liked the color combination of the green with the nearly tan upholstery.  In the overcast sky, the upholstery acquired a slight tint of the green and produced a fantastic color combination.  Well done Nick !

Rick....Ya know......If I already didn't have my trim plan mostly finished and just waiting to outfit my black Spyder with them, I really think Auratium Green would work very well on a Spyder too.  I think whitewalls would look good on Nick's Speedster, but not on a Spyder in any color.   Speedsters just have a free and sporty look. They just yell out FUN !  So bright colors go well with them.  I've always thought Speedsters and VW's, with their rounded bodies, even some Jeeps, just go well with bright solid colors. To me the Spyder just has a Jaunty look that's more conducive to conservative colors with silver being the least conservative, or perhaps, more business-like.

I'm still up in the air about what wheels to use.  I like the fake Fuch's with just the spokes shiny and the rest black.  I don't like wide fives.  If I was sticking to a more original look, I probably would consider wide fives of some sort. I'm thinking 16" so I have more choices of tires..............Bruce

"Salaryman wheels", that's funny. They could also be termed "Yeah, not spending that".

Same as when I called Chris Runge about his handmade aluminum seats. They were a steal back in 2016 at $2400 a pair. I can only not care what they are now.

We WANT 16" wide 5s, I believe that we talked about it and all wished for it. But they aren't out or in-process and frankly may never be.

Doesn’t the German place that makes Vintage 190’s for Greg make 16” wide 5’s? I thought someone posted that they did.

FWIW, don’t(didn’t) Lane, Ed, and Arjani (sp) all have 16” wide 5’s?

NVM, now that I think about it, I think Lane had 5x130 Porsche pattern.

I believe the Vintage 190 wheels are made by Mobelwagen.  I tried searching for where they are made, but I couldn’t find any info. Likely not in Germany.

Vintage 190s are 15 inches. When (if?) they make 16s they will likely be Vintage 203s.

Anand's car has 16s, but they are custom big bux wheels, not the salaryman wheels like most of us have.

I could have sworn that somebody posted that you could get 16” ones from the German company that makes them, but only in 5” wide, but I can’t find the thread.

I guess I’ve finally found an advantage to 68< 4 bolt hubs: there’s a plethora of wheels available, including all the 914 wheels.

And with 5x130 the possibilities are endless, including the Coddington wheels that Carey uses on 904s, in 15-18”

I don’t know if Stockton Wheels could make a 16” wide 5. I’m thinking not as it would require a completely different center. I had them make some custom wheels for my Manx, and they weren’t too expensive.  But they were also 15”.

Thanks Rick. It sucks getting old.

Hmmm. Must have been wishful thinking. Now that Mobelwagon has US distributors, the German factory site no longer comes up in a search.  Only 15” on their website.

eta: I could have sworn that when Mobilewagon was first mentioned here I went to a website that was either German or that UK bug site.  IIRC, that’s where I found Klassic Radar Stark wheels.

I found some: 36-39 Ford rims.

Too bad their bolt pattern is 10.25” instead of 205.  (8.075”) And they’re 4” wide.

Years ago I saw some intro to metal shaping video on Youtube and the guy made an aluminum seat in about 15 minutes. With vent holes @ALB would love.

These are $265 at Speedway.

@dlearl476- I remember those seats as well, Dave; yeah, they caught my attention and I thought they were as cool as all sh*t!!!  I'd love to have some actual metal working skills and be able to create something like that- I think it took the guy a bit longer than 15 minutes to pound 1 out though- the magic of video editing truly is sensational...

And the more I look at those seats the more potential holes I see!

You can buy bomber seat from any of about 500 places. Speedway has them for short money.

There were never readily available 16" 5/205s wide enough to matter. I'm 99.99% sure Anand's 16s were/are 4" or less wide. He got them because that is the original size, and Anand's cars are perfect replicas.

We (the unwashed hoons) pine for something that will accept at least a 195/55/R16 tire. That means a 5-1/2 wheel, at least. 16" performance rubber is more rare than it used to be, but the tires are not $400 each. This is why guys started running Fuchs.

I just underwent a multi-thousand dollar 5/130 brake/wheel conversion specifically to get to 16" wheels, not because I don't like the wide-5 look (to be clear, I love the wide-5 look) - but because when Vredestein pulled the plug on the Sportrac 5s, I was crestfallen and done playing around. Once I'd tasted summer performance rubber, I could never be satisfied with "perfectly adequate" A/S concrete-hard tires again.

Given my past record, this means somebody will be coming up with a nice 16" x 5-12" wide-5 alloy wheel in a year or two. No matter who swears they remembers what, there's never been one so far.

These are the wheels currently on Anand's Spyder as of right now. They are steel reproductions in a 16"x3.25" size and the tires Excelsior Stahl Steel Sport Radials in 5.00"x16". Previously he had a set of wheels on their custom made by Harry Witham out of Australia that were steel centers with alloy hoops and they were 16"x4". He didn't care for them because they rubbed the inner lip Porsche Fresno the rear fenders and they are for sale. I didn't ask how much because, well, custom made doesn't fit my budget and I don't have anything to put them on but if anyone is seriously interested I'll ask. I imagine he will sell them to someone restoring an original Spyder.

Just to let you know, Stockton Wheel is now out of business. They did great work and built wheels for my 41 Cadillac.
