HELP! I need some measurements. Can someone please measure the distance from the bottom of the deck lid opening to the top of the shine-UP license plate light. I would like to remove the existing generic EMPI light and get my new shine-up light mounted correctly and as soon as possible.

Pictures would be a great help too!

Thanks in advance!

I wonder what the Hawaiian Speedstah guys do to decorate their cars for Christmas?  Maybe a Lei?   Maybe that refugee from North Carolina and Rhode Island and now on Maui, @Michael Pickett could fill us in.

I was out driving, today, and had a bunch of people with their phones up taking photos of my wreath……

What?   You never saw an old Porsche decorated at Christmas?

Oh…..   Yeah….  Maybe not.  Not a lot of ‘em around.

I’m gonna have tah get my light-up Palm Trees out, left over from the South Carolina place.  Just for the garage, of course.  Putting them on the car would be just silly…..

Mine always had a light-up wreath attached to the luggage carrier. This is the first Christmas since my speedster went to the new owners over on Oahu. So, "only in my dreams."

The VW guys really put on a show out here. They run a big Toy for Tots program and dress their bugs and busses for the occasion. It's a blast to get together with them!

I thought a few years back there was a discussion on this very topic....highlighting how the locations of the uprights / tail lights on original speedsters is different than those found on our replicas.

EDIT:

I've done some digging to location photos to support my case.  I believe the bumpers on the original speedsters are thicker than ours, so that may account for some of this.  But you can clearly see how much higher my "shine up" light sits above my bumper in my car (the green speedster), versus its location in the others (all original speedsters).

We first saw that trim placement document from Manny (can’t remember his last name) when he was working in Uganda and turning a replica into a car much closer to an original.  It was a lot of work.  I’m not sure whether the author of the Doc was Manny or someone else, originally from South Africa.  I wonder if Gary, @flatfourfan has better info?

Anyway, it has been used a lot by others all over the World and is the only doc we’ve seen with dimensions - Always a good thing.

@imperial  I have a pair of windshield corner post placement templates (complete with coffee stains) and can attach them to another post when I get home and off my phone.  You can print them full size and they should help you out?

Windshield post placement templates are attached to this post.

Print them out full size and they should fit to locate the corner post holes in the cowl

And I re-read page 1 of the trim placement doc and it was Manny de Morais who wrote it.  IIRC, he works all around Africa for oil exploration companies.  He hasn't posted on here in a few years.

@Manny
