Does anyone know why VS places the speedometer to the left of tach; its opposite of originals. And has anyone switched them with any helpful hints what to watch out for? I'm guessing there is some wire extension that maybe needed and some new routing of the speedometer cable possibly up the steering column. Thank you for your input

A stock VW beetle cable will not be long enough to move it from the left side. Of course, not an issue with new GPS or speed sensor speedos,
The Pre-A speedster had the speedometer on the left, and the tachometer on the right.

Yeah, but VS doesn't build Pre-A cars. At most, they put pre-A bee-hive tail lights onto A replicas (Which, to a purist, shouts "Hey! I'm a Replica!")
If you want to move the two, get a longer speedo cable for a bus (anything around 1960-1970 will do - I can't remember the length, but it's something like 130 cm) and route it so it has gentle bends.
The tach wires should reach, but you may have to move stuff around in the bundle to free up some length.
Right is much better. More authentic & easier to see speed.
Yes, but if speedo is on the left it is harder for the passenger to see how fast you're going!
I think it is more correct for us Spyder guys, the originals seem to always be on the left.
Ah, Wolfgang thats' why VS does it because of the VW cable length. Bob, I was trying to keep it in the 57 era and noticed at a show the placement was opposite. Gordon, I forgot about the bus, you are right, that is a long length up the column. Thanx Art for the image. I just did not like the sharp final bend the cable has near the speedometer, its very sharp. I'll carefully look at the lengths of wiring and see if I can make the move. But first locate a bus cable just in case. Thanx everyone again for the wealth of experience.
Why hasn't anyone tried using a right angle speedo cable adapter? Wouldn't that solve the bending problem?
Vw bus cable I believe
I moved my speedo from the left side to right. I bought a bus cable for the transition but found it to be too long and the stock cable worked fine. You may need to reroute your cable.
Rusty, I'll try using the existing cable. Did you run yours up the column? And how much rewiring did you do?
