Ron,
Make sure that the (hockey stick)shift rod that comes out of the nose cone of the tranny clicks into place when it's in gear. There are detents in there that locate the correct position of the shift rod for each gear.
If it is being held in or out too far by the shift linkage (the main rod that goes forward to your shifter)then adjust the linkage so that the hockey stick isn't being held from going to the correct location.
If the shift linkage is OK and the hockey stick clicks into the detents, then the shift fork (inside the tranny) wasn't corrrectly positioned when it was assembled.
In this case,the tranny has to come apart and the gear cluster placed in a fixture to correct the position of the shift fork(s).
If the latter is the case, It may be wise to consult whoever built the trans.
