Hi guys, new Speedster owner, new to air-cooled fun but a long time gear-head.

I'm trying to make the wife's Speedster, I say wife because after buying the damn thing I realized it's too small for me, that and the wife gave up her A4 to dive the replica (pretty cool wife, huh?) look as close to the 1957 original as it can. Anyway, back on point here, does anybody know how to get the original Porsche 356, 912, 911, steel-wheel "disk brake" hubcaps to fit on the Speedster replicas 4-lug wheels? The outside diameter is the same, but the inside lip that grabs the hubcap clips is just slightly larger. Do I need to by the same type clips (356, 9012, 911) or can I "adjust" my clips that came with the car Thanks for the help.

Glad to be here; this site is by far the most respected for people who have our affliction of craziness.

Welcome to the Madness known as replica Speedster ownership! The more the merrier.

I don't think those Porsche hubcaps will fit any VW wheels (and would hate to lose any of those P-caps on the road). As for authenticity, Speedster originally came with moon hubcaps. A lot of SOCers (myself included) have VW nipple hubcaps with Porsche crest (available for wide-5 or later 4-lug wheels).

Hope to see you at one of the SOC gatherings listed under the 'Events' thread.

Thank you sir. Believe me, I won't be rolling out of the garage unless I'm damn sure it's on tight. Thanks for your help, I'm gonna do some thread research to see why my Weber is leaking? Only after I shut it off and then raw gas gathers on the bottom of the pump rod assembly. If you have any ideas, please point me to the right thread. Thanks again, if I can find a way to make those caps work, I'll be sure to share.

I recalled old post on this -- wow from back in 2002!

Andy, you can mount real Porsche hubcaps on the 4-lug wheels but you have to modify the inner lip of the hubcap to work with the different type of hubcap retainer (wheel flanges as opposed to the Porsche riveted spring-clips). But then the 8 holes in the wheel are still not correct. I heard that Mangel once made the 4-lug wheels with the Porsche 10 hole perforation pattern but have been unable to verify that. I even emailed Mangel in Brazil about making some quanitiy of 4-lugs with the 10 holes but they never responded.
