Dear all,

So my fiancÉ and I have been engaged for a little while now. We were hoping on having her mother’s W126 Mercedes 300SE as our wedding car, but that didn’t pan out.

She gave me the task of finding our wedding car, so I started to dream. The strongest expression of my passion for life, love, beauty and motorsports is the majestic and almost mythical Porsche 356 Speedster. I’ve been totally infatuated with a generous part of the Porsche brand since I was a kid, but the 356 Speedster holds a special place in my heart.

Many companies have built replicas for a small fraction of the price of the real thing, and they look absolutely stunning. The only problem is finding such a car, and then finding someone who would be willing to lend it to us complete strangers for that day, or weekend.

I’ve started asking around the 356 and Porsche community with only negative replies. I was told to put out an ad, as maybe that would result in some luck. I was told to try here by a member on Rennlist.

So here is my ad that I’ve been placing in several automotive forums.

I’m looking for a place or individual who would be kind enough to lend us their Porsche 356 Speedster Replica (in exchange for a fee of course) for our wedding day. Of course, I can’t afford even a replicated car, but it would mean quite a bit to my fiancÉ and I if we could borrow one.

I’ve always appreciated sports cars, their details and the hard work their owners have put into them, so I would treat any borrowed item like my own; with the utmost respect and care.

My fiancÉ and I are planning on getting married on August 20th, 2016 in MontrÉal, QuÉbec. I don’t know if there’s anyone on this forum who owns, or know someone who owns a replica, because a real 356 Speedster is damn near unobtainable and even if it were, I doubt the owner would ever let a total stranger within 5 feet of it.

If you could pass this message on to your members in the area, or possible connections to shops or companies interested, I would be very grateful.

The only requirements I was given by my fiancÉ is that it couldn’t be red, or any flashy colour. Silver or white is by far the most desirable, but even black or dark green would be considered.

Edit: The colour restriction has been discussed out; even a bright Guards Red example would be appreciated!

Because rule #1

Best regards,
James

Yup - Rule #1 - Happy Wife, Happy Life.  You can see where owners are located here under MEMBERS BUT sure one will step forward and offer their car.  Heck, never know when you'll join the madness.  Be sure to follow up on your request by posting a picture of smiling bride in the car! (That's a rare (in US) right hand drive model in photo).

A Speedster replica covers both something NEW and something OLD!

Dear Wolfgang,

I wholeheartedly agree with you. And if my dream comes true, you can be sure I'll be posting a beautiful picture of my newly wed wife, myself and our wedding chariot!

Thanks for the wishes!

James

Your ad should be a little more specific as to what it is you want to do with it.

Are you hoping the owner will let you drive off in it for the weekend while you have your photographer shoot lots of photos with the two of you? Or are you looking to have the car brought out to the photo shoot so the owner can watch as your photographer poses you and your lovely bride around and in the car?

I'm sure any vehicle owner would want some more details before they even considered calling you.

And I know all about Rule #1 I just celebrated my 27th anniversary.

You bring up very good points. I kind of wanted to leave it up to the owner to decide what he/she would allow us to do, depending on how much he/she trusted us, or how liberal he/she felt about loaning it to complete strangers.

In an ideal world, I would love to have the car for the entire Saturday. Early Saturday afternoon for photos with the guys, drive it from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu to Montréal with my best man (brother) riding shotgun for photos along the way, dropping myself off at the church. He would then pick up the bride at the apartment 8 blocks away and drive her to the church. After the ceremony, we would love to make it the star, once again, for a photoshoot and drive to the Old Port of Montréal.

Of course, this is what I would love the most, but details and restrictions would be discussed with the owner.

I totally agree. I intend on phoning my insurance company early next week just to inquire about the details of such a transaction. I need to be able to be covered for whatever may happen (God forbid).

Hi Art,

Yep, in Montréal, there are no shortage of limo companies, but new to me are companies that bridge owners with potential clients. I'll certainly give them a try and see what they have to offer, if I can't find what I'm looking for.
